    Modified m14 mags 4 .308 ar?

I'm ready 2 buy a .308 lower. I don't know weather to go armalite or dpms pattern. I think the deciding factor for me will be mags. I have a good sized stash of m14 mags I purchased in the 90's. I've heard that they can be modified to work with an Armalite lower. Is this true? What needs to be done? Will the mod'ed mags still work in my M1 A? Thanx.

Doing this from memory, a friend has an AR 10 and uses them, but I believe there is a side cut for the AR style mag catch to lock in and a cut in the rear for the bolt hold open tab to sit in. New follower.

It seems to me that these modifications would not preclude them from being used in an M1A so long as the AR follower were removed and the M1A follower put back in place. But that's just a guess.
