Sig E2 Grip vs. Std Grip Magazine Question

Given all the news about the U.S. District Court decision on mags, I was looking at an online source today, and noticed that some of the Sig mags are listed as being for the E2 grip.

Does this mean that a mag that fits an E2 grip will not fit a standard grip on a Sig? Or vice-versa?

Standard SIG grips or SIG's E2 grips won't matter regarding magazines.

I do seem to recall some SIG grips which extended further down for some reason and I cannot speak for those grips.
Those grips may have been on SIG's TacOps models, as I recall, and usually came with extended higher capacity mags (as in 20 round P226 mags).

Right-o. All 226 mags should be the same. Even the TacOps mag will fit in a regular 226. The Tac-Ops models have grips that extend downwards to make a sort of built-in mag funnel, and that's why they come with those long mags:

Now there is a difference in mags for the 229 series. I'm not 100% sure on the details, but I know that Sig switched to different magazine dimensions for some (or possibly ALL) of their new-production 229s. That's where you're probably seeing mags marked for different frames. The new mags are called 229-1. Are you buying for a 229? If so, what model is it and do you know about when it might have been manufactured?

Yes, I'm concerned about ordering the correct mags for my P229. I'll take a look at it today and post here what version it is. Not sure. Thanks very much.

My Sig P229 shows "P229-1" on the breech block. The 10 round mags I have for it are also marked P229-1. Pictures attached. So does it require "E2" type mags? It's been awhile since I purchased it and I can't remember if it came with the E2 grip, which I might have removed.

Mec-Gar P229-1 17 round magazine for 9mm E2 P229 models. These magazines will not fit P228's or P229 9mm's that typically use 9mm 13RD magazines. The E2 and some of the recent P229 9mm models use a .40S&W frame which has a larger diameter magazine well.

            Hope that above link helps.

I don't know what "E2" P229 9mm mags are. You will do better by asking the vendor what E2 mags are.

Your P229 will work best with P229-1 mags. The P228 or non "-1" P229 9mm mags will apparently function, but will be loose and rattle in a "-1" frame's magazine well.

Sig came out with a second version of the P229 with what they call E2 grips. Apparently the mag well got redesigned in the process. Other than that, I don't know the details.

Based on the link Barang sent, mags marked 229-1 are a proper fit for this version of the P229. It's possible that any P229 mags will work, but I'm not sure about that. When I find a source, I think I'll just get on the phone with them. Meanwhile, I really like my Sigs including my P229.

My P229 came with an older-style frame, but with E2 grips. I obtained some regular P229 grips and now switch back & forth with grips as my mood dictates.
