    Colt Midrange 38 Special

As I sit here wondering what will happen on the magazine ruling on Monday, I decided to post a pic of another strange gun I bought decades ago that has never been shot by me.

Its a used Colt Mid Range 38 Special. Gun store offered it to me at I don't know what price, I had disposable cash, end result - in my gun safe. It does say "National Match" - 1509-MR

Anyone knowledgeable about them - ?

One on Gunbroker sold two weeks ago, near-mint, box + docs $2500 after 32 bids.

The seller takes nice pictures. My barrel does not state any MK. No box, think I have another strange magazine in my loose magazine accumulation.

Not selling. Just wondering what people think about them. Supposedly didn't make many of them, wondering if that was because they suck or just didn't sell. 38 Special, to me, is just a strange caliber to chamber an automatic.

I have a lot of strange pistols that I just bought over the years on a whim. Never shot most of them.

That bidding on that auction doesn't make sense to me. If the losing bidder bid 2.5k before the winning bidder bid the same amount, why did the later bidder win? I am guessing something is wrong with the dollar amount as 2.5k appears bid several times - ?

Someone care to explain to an old mentally feeble fart?

Colt Mid Range National Match are good to go as far as C&R, they are also known as "pre 70 series" national matches, sometimes the miss-title of gold cup is attached. They are 38spl "full wadcutter" caliber designed for old school Bullseye competition. A few differences in build, lighter slides, softer recoil springs and such. The loads are commonly around 2.8gr. Bullseye powder or similar. They are dreams to shoot with correct ammo, standard 38spl ammo is too hot for them. Do a google search search for old bullseye comp for interesting read. Mag cap was only 5 pounds. These are collectable pistols. S&W 52s were made for same purpose of shooting, some considered the 52s a better shooter, colts were said to be finicky with ammo, but of the collection I have all but a couple colts shoot fine. The 1911 forum has a lot of good info on these classics archived. Mark
Oh no, not another 1911 !

Gunbrokers policy is: If multiple bids for the same amount are made at the same time, the first one received takes priority.

That I understand. Why did the later bidder for the same amount win - ?

                  Congrats! Fairly rare, nice piece!
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

Winning bidder had the winning amount first via "auto bid"
