Buying stripped glock frame?

Thinking about buying a G34 but I plan on upgrading it a bunch. Is it possible to just buy a frame in ca? How would it be DROSd? I believe the frame for the 17 and 34 are the same, so would it go down as one, the other, or what. If I put a 34 slide on a 17 would that get me into trouble CCW wise since the model listed would be different?

It seems pointless to buy a stock one to change out almost all the pieces anyway.

You can acquire via PPT. Some FFLs will allow you to slap your G17 slide or whatever on to a bare frame if you find a frame online. I know 2A Zone in Rancho is versed on this subject.


FWIW you can probably sell most of the components from a brand new G17 and make back nearly the cost of the gun. This is probably the method I would go woth

I’ve bought stripped Glock frames on more than one occasion. I believe they were all technically done via PPT.

I don’t believe the safe handling test needs to be performed on the exact same gun you are buying. So as long as the ffl has a complete glock in stock, you can use that for sale handling. No need for the frame to be built up into a complete gun before you can take possession.

That being said, i agree that it’s probably financially a better deal to buy a complete gun and sell what you don’t need.

2a zone was selling a few 17/19 frames. Maybe they can do a 34 for you

I have purchased stripped Glock frames, most FFLs I've been to didn't require it built or safe handling demo, only Turner's did.
I think you're going about it the right way if you plan on modding only, I bought a complete new G34 and changed every part (slide, barrel, trigger, pins, safety plunger, mag release, slide stop, everything. Doing it over I would have just started with the frame.
