I was on my way home from a job and stopped by my regular LGS in the Santa Barbara area, wow did I walk in on a heated conversation. The FFL and an auditor were in a very hot discussion regarding the new Colt Series 70 Gold Cup National Match pistols he had jumped on board like everyone else and started bringing in. He was told to "recall" all sold and reimburse the purchasers. He argued back that he had called, as other FFLs had, to confirm their legal status by way of C&R status and was told "NO" not legal because they were not 50 yrs. or older. He was also told that within a few days there would be a letter / notification sent out to all FFLs in regards to new definition of "National Match" co-authored by DOJ and ATF. I would have thought this FUD had I not been standing there hearing it from the auditor's mouth. I assume one would consider this SOP procedure by DOJ to across the board either verbally or via email answer the question posed by so many FFLs, ARE THESE LEGAL, and then set them up for a fall. This FFL hasn't sold a ton of these but is most concerned with losing face with a customer base he has been pleasantly serving for almost 35 years. I feel the sudden urge to expidite my plan of shutting down my welding shop of 32 years and getting the bloody HELL out of this god forsaken state. Talk about setting people up ! Thanks to all for letting me vent, I now have to go leave a huge Komifornia in the other room. Mark out !

The NRA/CRPA should offer to fund the defense of a test case on it. The law seems very clear that the FFL was in the right. This would be an important win with positive practical implications.I was on my way home from a job and stopped by my regular LGS in the Santa Barbara area, wow did I walk in on a heated conversation. Were they not DROS and therefore approved by the State in the first place?
What is the point of DROS or the Roster if you can retroactively reverse your decisions and approvals? The government once again changing its tune on a whim.Comment

Vintagearms, as some previous threads hashed out the CGCNM were deemed 'good to go" also according to numerous FFLs who did the foot work of phone calls or emails to confirm with DOJ, as did the FFL I mentioned above. Your question about status of "recall" by FFL brings up a very interesting point, if said FFL acquired the approval of DOJ it sounds to me like DOJ is hanging the FFLs out to dry. The auditor also said that an FFL in SoCal had sold 63 units and had been made aware of the "new" situation. It will be interesting to stay in touch with some FFLs to see if the "new" notifications do indeed come out.Oh no, not another 1911 !

My thoughts exactly, no less than I would expect for this state though. Perhaps if you don't like it change the text, update the regs and move forward. This CRAP of making/changing things as you go is BULL ! So what do the customers that made "lawful" purchases based on what the FFLs were being told do ? Bow and submit ?Oh no, not another 1911 !

If CADOJ can go back and resend dozens (maybe hundreds) of completed (read approved) DROS's, at the dealer's expense . . . . .

I gotta say this could be a cluster truck for a lot of people. DOJ running around basically unchecked and doing what they do is a bad scenario for all. As it stands,it looks like a lot of these are in circulation. What I really don’t like about the DOJ
is there unwillingness to admit an error on their part. I do find it interesting when this all started there were some
FFLs who still REFUSED to sell these despite all the reporting to the contrary and got grief from angry customers.
Maybe the smartest thing they did.Last edited by GM4spd; 04-07-2019, 7:15 PM.Comment
