How about a fixed target (free) and a shot timer ($100)?

Since the $1,600 moving target comes straight at you, I really don’t see how it helps you train. It doesn’t require you to change your point of aim over the two seconds, and the target actually gets larger and therefore easier to hit as it gets closer. I think a shot timer would be better.

ITTS has one for its handgun courses. I think it's included in HG III+.

The 21 foot myth is a joke.

Don't buy in to any of that garbage, if the attacker isn't a pro "ball" player then what? I cant see the average person getting to you.

If you aren't the cops or in your house, you have much bigger problems if you pull that gun and shoot. Shoot at close range, yes close.

If they have a gun pointed at you shoot safely!
If they have a knife, shoot at almost point blank!
Other life threating object, shoot at almost point blank!
If with fist or body, touching you, contact shoot!

practice alone, pull from concealed carry and dry fire. At all the distances you feel needed. Try moving around and pulling. Try sitting a pulling.

Go to the range a shoot normal, if the range allows you to pull from concealed try it. Its hard to get it right, pulling with the shirt down, not ready.

Now to the point. I saw a guy in the desert with a wood or metal setup with a dolly or pully system pulling a rope or wire. The target was going forwards and back by hand. he was in a light duty truck, like a ranger size truck, he got it there in in parts.

I didn't want to be next to other shooters, and we proceeded away.

SO instead of the motor, use a pulley counterweight system.

Basically, have a scaffold with a counter weight at the top tied to the base of the target, kick it free, weight drops and pulls the target.

Speed of movement could be managed by the wheel brakes or tension on the bearings on the base of the target.

ITTS actually has a setup like in one of their classes (and it goes both ways). You'd be AMAZED at how some people miss center mass!!! Or at the least, not get their pistols up in time...
