Up to seller to ship to ca. If revolver over 50 years old roster does not apply other than that sol on off roster being shipped to ca. And before some twit replies this does not refer to intrafamilial interstate transfer. If you have a father or son or grandfather they can gift you an off roster handgun from out of state. Must comply with cal handgun laws, No large cap mags, no threaded barrel. You can also have shipped to audiophil and have turned into single action and have sent to local ffl.

It does not matter if the gun is used or new, the roster applies to all handguns. They either need some sort of roster exemption (single action, single shot, C&R etc), or the transaction must be roster exempt (like a PPT or Intrafamily gift) - or you don't get them.

It doesn't matter if it is a 1980 double action revolver that has been owned by a hundred different people and was salvaged from the bottom of the lake, and is covered in rust and barnicles. That gun is not approved for sale here unless you get it PPT. You can't have it shipped in unless it is on the roster. The roster makes no exemption for age or condition or new or used - until it is at least 50yrs old.

Q: Exactly how does the roster work?
        A: It doesn't

Aside from from my attempt at humor... if the revolver meets the right criteria, you may look at single action exemption for revolvers. And if the seller is open to converting before sending, which many are not. Good luck, OP.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

On paper, it's like they say above. In real life, here's how the roster works:

You go to the FFL and say "I would like THIS sweet gun!"

FFL says "You can't have it."

            "Aarrgghh, Ok...maybe THIS cool gun!"

"You can't have that one, either."

            "Dayyum.....THIS one?"

            "Nope."

"F#<k, what gun CAN I have?"

"Any of the sheitty ones in the small case over there.....and only in black."

The roster works as intended: to infringe upon We, the People's Amendment II RIGHT.

Decide if you want new or used...narrows it down quick. I wanted new handguns...went to roster, found a few that fit my needs, rented those makes/models at ranges, confirmed my pick...then went and bought or ordered them.

Other than that...move to a free state....

                Good luck OP...

The roster works by having a list of features required of a firearm to allow it to be sold in the state of California.

The Leftists wanted to get rid of firearms, so they created a non-existant feature called microstamping. Microstamping requires the entire code for manufacturer and serial number of an individual firearm to be imprinted on the spent primer from the tip of the firing pin.

And it has to work close to 100% of the time, for many decades, and thousands of rounds of ammunition fired from that one firing pin. Failure to comply would subject the firearms manufactures to criminal penalties.

To date, there is not a single manufacturer that has been able to comply with these requirements and have their new firearms placed on the roster.

Any "new" firearm, in order to be placed on this roster, would have to meet these standards.

That would include the new safer generations of Glocks, which is why we the people can only buy generation 3 Glocks. No 4th or 5th gen for us.

It is also why we cannot buy Colt 1911. The Colt factory moved, and the state decided they have to re-qualify. No microstamp, so they can't qualify.

That is why there are about 5 automatic .22LR pistols that we can buy. And about the same for .380 automatics.

^ Not just the leftists -- the roster was enacted under Pete Wilsons governorship, and microstamping pased under Arnold .......

Cali convservatives are as much to blame about our stringent gun laws
