    S&W serial #'s

I have a leter from Cal doj listing the handguns that are registered to me.
On of them is a S&W m66 that I bought in '86. Sold it off to brother in law, or so I remember, latter that year. Guess he did not reregister it. He passed away
from als about 4 years ago, and my sister wants to give it back. Problem is, the serial # on the doj letter, and the # on the gun don't match. Serial # is ANDxxxx. Serial # on gun is 82kxxxx. I found the original receipt, and the # is the ANDxxxx number. I thought all k-frame smiths had a k in the serial #.
Could the dealer have put a number from the yolk instead of the actual #?
Trying to get an answer from Smith & Wesson, so far no luck
    Any help?
    Thanks, robert

    The 82Kxxxx s/n is from 1980.
An ANDxxxx s/n is probably from ~1986 according to my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson book.

I can only suspect there were two different Model 66 revolvers involved and the ANDxxxx s/n revolver is now somewhere else.

P.S., I've no idea how DoJ will account for or bother with a revolver you transferred 39 years ago. I suspect I'll someday die with firearms which California says are registered to me and I won't even have any memory of them and I already know my memory and record-keeping aren't as good as yours.

Maybe the 82k is another gun your bro owned beside the AND. Maybe your bro sold the AND but your sis assume the 82K is the same gun you originally sold to your bro in 1986?

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Go by the numbers stamped in the bottom of the grip frame.

Have your sister PPT it at LGS. Pay the $35, wait 10 days, buy more ammo and enjoy. Have your sister PPT any other guns he may have had on the same transaction.
Sorry for your and your sisters loss...
