    CZ cast steel frames

I know CZ's use cast steel frames. Some compact models are listed with aluminum forged frames . Any thoughts on which is better?

Steel for HD, target...general use. Aluminum for ccw or if you carry all day.

I have two CZ compacts, one alum, one steel. The weight difference is significant. I prefer the alum more. I only use them for target shooting though.

By the way, I think my next purchase will be a CZ compact.

It depends on how hard you're going to use it.

Action pistol match gun = Steel. Heavier (less recoil) and sturdier.

Carry gun or range toy = Alloy

I LOVE the SP-01. Recently picked up a P-01 and felt a little "meh" about it. Its a good gun but it didn't blow me away. What I love about the SP-01 is the weight, balance, and how soft shooting it is. The P-01 is slightly snappier (as expected). Still a soft-shooting 9mm, but just looses something for me. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it didn't impress me like I thought it would.

Now I have my sights set on the 75 compact (steel frame). Not because I think steel is any "better", but because I like the weight. What I'd give for the steel frame P-01...

The steel frame CZ 75 Compact and the aluminum frame P-01 (which is compact size) are actually very close in weight. The Compact has a thumb safety while the P-01 doesn't.

The SP-01 is steel frame and significantly larger and heaver than the compacts. The little Rami is alloy frame. I had the Rami for a year and the frame seemed very solid to me. I would pay the most attention to the size, features and feel of compact CZ guns because the weight difference isn't that significant in my opinion.

I wish they'd make a compact with the rami slide. The rami frame is just too small for me.

I hear ya. I sold my Rami and bought a Compact because there wasn't enough good grip space for my hands. The Compact is working well for me so far at the range. Haven't conceal carried it yet, though, because it's not on my CCW permit yet.
