Why were the sig P365 so costly?

I recently read an article in the Blue Press (Dillon reloading mag) about the sig P365. I looked it up on here and noticed people were asking over 1000.00!. What's the deal? Is it that worthy?
I think there are many compact polymer pistols that would do the job at less.

Stop calling them Lawmakers. It only encourages them.

Off-roster pistols, like the p365, are sold at a premium to reflect their scarcity and the lack of availability on the retail market in California...

It’s a great gun. I’m on the small side . I can conceal it well and it holds ten rounds. Conceals great. Since we are in Californistan, it’s off roster. I paid double retail which is the cheapest I’ve seen. I’ve seen it offered for triple retail.

Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I don't like to see these crazy markups in the market place on the P365, but guess it's simple supply and demand Econ 101 w the stupid roster. Amazing how a simple little Polymer gun that goes for $500 in free states is selling for $1200-$1400 in this marketplace.

I'd love nothing more than to be able to conceal carry but living where I do that just ain't going to happen, well legally at least.

But if I could get my CCW license I do understand if you loved how the P365 felt and shot it might be worth it to some to pay the CA premium if that was going to be their EDC.

I shot one few times and was a great little shooter. Liked it bit better than my Shield 9mm I've owned for years.

Latest and greatest thing some think. If they like and have the money...they pay.

It does feel good in the hand as 9mm mentioned

It's not any smaller than the Shield. If those are on roster they'll be a fraction of the SIG price.

Honestly I liked the 365 more than the shield, but I prefer the 43x and the 48 over the 365.

Thanks all. I figured off roster but yes, msrp is 600 so double is definitely out of the price range. If someone has one out of state and legally moves to CA, they couldn't even give me a great price if they wanted to. Sucks both ways. I guess I'll stick to my 2.5" Smith snubby.

If anyone legally possesses one in CA they can sell it for whatever price they desire. There is no rule that says they have to charge more.
