    AR pistol fixed mag option?

I am considering purchasing a single-shot, break top AR pistol from a FFL7 dealer and then converting it into semi-auto as many have done. Rather than separating the upper/lower to reload, is there something as of January 2019 that is a CA compliant workaround, such as a Patriot Pin or Maglock type device? I'm guessing it's a NO since those are designed for AR rifle compliance and not pistols. If I am in fact stuck with a fixed mag AR pistol, would you prefer that configuration or a Franklin CA7 for home defense? Tell me why? I'm thinking the fixed mag AR pistol...if I can't stop the threat in 10 rounds of .556 or .300 without reloading I'm probably in dire straits! Thanks in advance for your opinions!

          LOL

The general consensus is that the pistol needs to stay in the single shot configuration.

Interesting, there are several FFL7 dealers stating the opposite. But gun law is apparently open to interpretation and is a grey area sometimes.

For fixed magazine solution I like the FCHook + Lancer 10round magazine.

I doubt that there are any FFL7 manufacturers stating that you can set it up to reload (if you mean removing the magazine) without disassembly of the action.

AR pistol for home defense... OP, just get yourself a Glock with a light/laser. Your ears will thank you if (God forbid) you ever have to use it.

If its AR or nothing, just use a rifle. Don't they make AR15 cell phone attachments nowadays?

EDIT: Here ya go! You can talk to 911, take video, and shoot the bad guy all at the same time!

I have a handgun and shotgun as home defense weapons, but I'm looking at an AR pistol because they are more maneuverable than a shotgun down a hallway and staircase while carrying a high caliber round without the kick of a shotgun that my wife doesn't like...so yes an AR pistol would be great for home defense.😎 I would purchase a 10 round converted CA compliant semi-auto AR pistol with a fixed mag but would prefer a legal workaround.

Look at some of the videos of immediate action (jam clearing) drills with fixed mag ARs before you trust one with a home defense role.

Yeah, just do a rifle. If it's a big deal to have it short, get a bullpup. If it's no big deal to have a long barrel, get a featureless like a Mini-14 or KelTec.

I'd never use an AR pistol for home defense in CA, the fixed magazine options are all unreliable in a high stress situation, let alone even just going to the range for plinking. On top of that, the concussion and flash indoors without protection will leave you deaf and blind which defeats the purpose.

Just build a rifle and pin and weld a break to reach the legal length. The maneuverability is workable if you practice drills.

Even if I was in a free state I would never use an AR pistol for home defense unless it was a 7" 300 Blackout shooting subsonic ammo with a can.
