SA loaded target 1911 9mm range report

Third time out with it and the first two times I liked it but still wasnt giving me a reason to keep it. This time I really got to know it and love it! It wasn't fair because I was comparing it to my cajunized shadow sp01 conversion that I absolutely love.

This range trip I only took the 1911 to spend some quality time with it and because some bad ammo caused a bullet to get stuck in my CZ barrel, thankful another round couldn't fit behind it since I had no idea it happened.............I think the barrel is ok though.

Swapped the grips on it for hogue finger groove grips and was able to aim a lot better this time around, still a new shooter and learning though. Circled are my shots, little targets at 5 yards off hand. Big target 25 yards off hand (can barely make out the target even with contacts lucky shots). All other shots on targets are my buddy and his SAO shadow 2.

Fun trip, have some other grips I want to try. I had trigger mods in mind but I think I'm leaving it alone and getting a 22 conversion for it.

Kinda new to guns here so how exactly does a bullet that is fired get stuck in the barrel and how would you get it out? I would think that with so much force behind it it would come out, probably all miss shaped and tumbling though.

Funny you say that i have the kadet kit already lol. It runs good but only if I change out my mainspring which makes my trigger pull heavier on the 9mm shooting and I might need to install the factory firing pin for reliability (havent tested enough) . I guess it's not that big a deal to swap the spring at the range but I really wanted to practice with the same setup if that makes sense.

I was going to go with the super pricey nelson kit and call it a day. Reviews say it performs great from what i can tell with modded or factory 1911s.

I use to have a gsg 1911 and couldn't ever get it to run reliably even with lots of upgrades.

Bad powder apparently (I think it was store bought reloaded ammo taken from a friend) It fired enough to start but not make it through the barrel. I got lucky, normally barrels are ruined from this the smith said but I was able to get it out with a plastic punch and hammer. Have not shot out of again yet but the Smith ran a barrel bushing along the outside and it's not swelled anywhere and the inside looks fine to the naked eye.

Main thing is it seems pretty dangerous when this happens. My friends and I are all super paranoid now. Every failure to eject we run something through the barrel to make sure clear.......

Bad powder, loose to no crimp, but most likely a missed charged (no powder). The primer gave it enough force for the boolit to exit the casing but not enough to travel down the barrel. OP is very lucky that it didn’t go any further for another round to chamber.

Op your cz barrel is fine, if you can..try and remember how the recoil felt and how your pistol sounded like when you got that squib. That will save your face, fingers and pistol if it happens again. Also if you have small to medium hands try switching out the grips to VZ slims..makes the gun feel like a completely different pistol. If you’re already content with your hogues then please disregard.

I dont remember what it sounded like but I know it went off. I was shooting steel at distance and thought I just missed. I do remember it hadn't ejected and I cleared it and I saw some little black pellets come out of the shell and didnt think anything of it.

I'm just thankful another round didnt fit and caused me to take it apart and check it.

I have some VZ grips for the CZ I need to try out at the range one day.

I usually have a flashlight with me everywhere I go. So, I eject the mag, lock the slide back and shine the light on the shooting table and I can see the light thru the open slide. If you don't have a flashlight, an iPhone will work too.

Fortunately there was no damage to the pistol. This will only happen if the first bullet went down the barrel enough to chamber the next bullet. When the next bullet fires, the increase in pressure will blow the barrel and/or the magazine out the bottom. Sometimes it will ruin the slide and/or the frame depending on how bad the pressure increase was and the build of the gun.

Here are the grips im currently trying. I go more for functionality and comfort then looks lol but I will be testing the bottom one next. So far the hogue is my favorite.
