    Glock 48

    Glock fans,

I would like your opinion. I was going to buy a G19 (my first Glock) a few months ago, but another off roster became available I have been looking for and I could not pass up. Since then, the G48 has come out. Is there any reason to buy the G19 over the G48, other than magazine capacity?

Glocks are fine handguns, but just do not excite me. My purpose for buying a G48 is to try to entice my wife to upgrade from here Browning .22 into a more powerful weapon. My wife is very small (nearly a munchkin), so I think the single stack will be great for her little hands. Since California is limited to 10 rounds, I figure why not the thinnest grip possible, right? If we ever move out of California, I have other handguns I can buy higher capacity magazines, so I am not worried about that. I know many of you will suggest, "get your wife to hold the gun(s) and let her decide..." Realistically, that will not work for my situation because my wife is not that engaged into the sport. I need it to be more like, "I bought this for me, but if you like it, then this is yours, I just want you to be happy..." kind of thing.

    Thanks for the input.

    The cost.
Unless you are an exempt person, the cost of an off-Roster Glock 48 will be 2-3 times higher than an on-Roster Glock 19 Gen 3.

You could buy an on-Roster Glock 19 Gen 3 and an on-Roster S&W M&P9 Shield (single-stack 9mm) or an on-Roster Kahr Arms CW9 (single-stack 9mm) for less amount of money that you would spend on acquiring an off-Roster Glock 48.

      My wife prefers a G17.

I have both G19 and G43 and she far and above prefers the G17.

If you think she will use / carry te G48, buy it, the cost of a tool to save ones life is priceless.

The downside to this is she may not even use the gun once you buy it ( since she is not a gunner ).

The G19 is a good gun, but if the grip / size is uncomfortable for her she is not going to use it.

Most of the small pistols have double recoil type springs, thus making the gun hard for women to rack the slide.

Have you thought about a k frame revolver, simple to use, easy to unlatch the cylinder, and it has a thin grip.

The kahr cw9- pm9 ( harder to rack the slide ) , 1911 ( commander size ), glock 36 ( may be tough to rack the slide ), might be the way to go.

Also, if you can get her to the range and see what she likes to shoot, you can start eliminating guns that she doesn't like.

Also, you can see what rounds she might enjoy shooting, 327mag, 38, 9mm, 45 ( yes my sister likes shooting a 45 over 38/9mm ).

        Good luck

Unless she is willing to shoot and train with whatever you decide to buy, you are buying a paper weight/novelty piece.

No offense, but it sounds to me like you may be better off buying her some pepper spray for a fraction of the price, rather than a gun.

Does the thinner grip justify the off-roster premium (2-2.5x MSRP)?

Only you can answer that but it doesn't sound like you are a Glock fanboy.

If you are really trying to get your wife to shoot a different caliber, why not get a 38 Special revolver? The beauty of a revolver is that the grips can be as thin or thick as you want since there is no magwell.

A Ruger SP-101 is a stout little piece and handles the recoil from a 38 Special really well.

Take a look at a Gen 4 G19 or G26. Without the backstrap, they're just enough thinner that it could be the difference between yay or nay.
And the prices have come down. The G48 is really nice, but it's a big premium to pay in CA.

In California if you can afford it, you may as well buy a G43x or 48 since you cant have over 10rounds anyways. Every other Glock is just extra weight.

The G48 seems gimmicky to me.

How about a shield? They are are small and inexpensive, and pretty decent guns. especially with some trigger work.
The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

The Calguns marketplace usually has a few pistols for sale, bought by well-meaning husbands/boyfriends, that didn't fly with the wife/girlfriend. Let her keep her Browning until she decides she wants to explore something different. At least she is using/carrying something; whereas many of the spouses/girlfriends aren't using/carrying anything at all.

One plus, is that you would have good resale value on that G48. Good luck!

Everything being equal, I would take the 48. But all things are not equal here are they?

Buy the 48 if you can. You won’t regret it. If your wife likes the new gun, even better!
