    Sig Sauer P6

My mom just bought her first handgun, something I never thought I would see. It is a 1979 Sig Sauer P6 West German Officer Model. Anyone ever had one of these? She bought it cause it looked good and fit her small hands. She wanted me to ask where to get more mags for these, and if they accept mags over 8 rounds (she is in Arizona so if avalable the higher cap the better!). From what I have read they are the same as the Sig 223, is this right? Thanks.

    No..
Your mom's P6 is the same as a SIg P225.
Sig never made any magazines over 8 rounds..there maybe aftermarket magazines around but the factory mags work best.

Mine is a great gun...got it for cheap and it seems to work just fine with no work or cleaning. Congrats to her!

I wonder if there's a difference between the Officer's model and the standard P6.
Great shooter- I'd avoid the aftermarket 10 round mag. If she wants higher capacity- steer her towards a 228.

Mags as said above Top Gun Supply.
586 L-Frame, I painted my front sight white on my P6. How do you like that with no paint on the rear sight ?

Works great for my eyes for faster sight alignment,
by leaving the rear sight black and the front sight flourescent pink.

White/yellow/green works as well for the front sight.

                    Mainly personal preference.

just checked; top gun does still have factory magazines [$39.95] and factory grips [$15.95] in stock for your mom's p6. don't think about aftermarket magazines; remember one in the hand is better than two in the bush! the aftermarkets should not be trusted in a defense role due to possible problems with malfunction. her gun may have some problems feeding hollow point reliably due to slight difference in feeding ramp from the p225. if this is a problem it can be rectified, but test first before relying on gun with the hollow points. i have been told and have read the serial number sequence prior to the m series may have these problems. i own the brethren sig p225 and am entirely pleased with her. older sigs are famous for loving the classic winchester silvertip 115 gr hollow point round and federal 9bp hollow point. ayood mentions in his book that the older p225/p6 should not shoot the newer +p hot loads but rather the classic loads like the ones i mentioned. you might want to check out a p239 9mm if you want to shoot the +p loads. your mom got a great gun....

by the way i mentioned the p239 over the p228 and others because you mentioned the p225 fit her hands; the p228 and other 9s by sig have larger hand grips; unless she wants older w german p220 9mm! i would like to get one of those JUST BECAUSE!

Word of caution. As stated the older P6 don’t feed hollow points well. Should run a minimum of 250 rounds thru it with no malfunctions before you can count on the personal defense ammo of choice. If it doesn’t feed the hollow points well you can get a new updated barrel here. http://www.topgunsupply.com/sig_p225...arrel-9mm.html
Or you can have the older barrel throated and polished by a shop. http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/index.html

I went with the new barrel.

Cool, I was going to go with an XS sight. But this, white front sight, seems to have done the trick for me. My up close vision is gone since I had lasik done a few years back. My P6 is my at home defender and I hear the XS sights are for that. So if I don't end up liking the white front, which so far has worked, I might try XS sights.
