Or another idea...
Heizer sells replacement barrels.
Buy a replacement barrel for the gun you want, get it threaded and an extension permanently attached so that it makes length, swap the new barrel on and presto!
After DROS and pickup, swap the original barrel back on, sell the modified barrel to another calgunner that wants one of these things.
As well, a smart dealer could simply have a bunch of modifed barrels in stock for customers to use...

A rifled subcaliber barrel insert around 9.5" would work. The 7.62 round has a ~.40" shoulder That leaves a lot of room for a 22 rimfire insert.. I would try and make a 22 short with a slightly offset chamber so the centerfire firing pin could set off the rimfire round. That is how these 45LC cartridge conversions work

Better yet, make the sub-cal insert for the 7.62. Then after DROS you can remove the insert and you will have 7.62, and you can swap on any other barrel you want (except the .410). Then you would have 7.62 and .223.
Then sell the subcal insert, or if you are a dealer keep it for the next guy. Just like the old SSE days.
Also note you could never have the gun and .410 barrel in your possession at the same time in CA.Last edited by SkyHawk; 02-01-2019, 4:43 PM.Comment
