Glock 17 and Glock 19 shooting impressions

I notice a big difference when drawing and shooting my duty Gen5 G17 ( or any G17) and then I shooting G19. G17 overall just feels so much better.

I been with Glock for 25 + years and always felt that G17 is just a better shooting experience.

Would like to hear comments from other Glock shooters.

I really like my G17. Nice weight, and a good sight radius for me. I have shot a couple of G19's and I found my accuracy with the 17 was better. I have no problems with my 17 on the draw.

Your comparison mirrors mine, and IMO the difference is attributed to the larger of the two having more grip surface, mass, and longer sight radius. I notice the exact same when comparing the G21 to the G30S (both 45's). Even more so when shooting the G36 after the 30S.
The 9mm is a very soft shooter in the G17, and with its large capacity of quality ammunition makes a very good duty sidearm that should last a lifetime. Ditto for the G21 if you want the larger caliber. My older gen2 has well over 25K through it, and it just keeps going.

I’ve owned a G19 and G17, sold them both. My Glock of choice is the G34 as I shoot the best with it and like the 17 for you it feels the best to me

Funny sold my g34 because I shoot the g17 better. Really like the g19 too. I run g17 mags in it with a grip extension (little rubber chingas on the mag) for a full size grip.

My first Glock was a gen 2 G23, I much preferred the feel of the grip over the G22.
As I've gotten older I began to notice I shot better with my full size guns and bought a gen 3 G22 and later a G20SF.

Tried 17 and 19 and walked away the 19.
For me same reason, grip and accuracy.

I’m the exact opposite of the OP. I shoot my 19 better than my 17. I think it’s because the slightly tighter spacing of the finger grooves helps lock my hand to the gun. My fingers are relatively long and thin and my palms are small. 19 just fits me better.
                my Benitez goes to 11

17 over 19 but not by much.

Unless you have smaller hands and plan to conceal carry, the G17 is better. But I would choose the G34 over any of those. The G19 is really over rated. It does not make a fun range toy. The G43 or G26 is better for conceal carry. G19 is for those who wants a gun that's a jack of all trades but master of none.

Thats how I feel too. Especially after carrying and shooting Gen5 19 with a cut on the bottom of the grip. Shooting my duty G17 is so much better . I must say though that my GEN2 G19 feels way better in my hand than Gen5.

Have you shot the G45? If so, what's our take on it compared to your G17 and G19?

the G17 standard service sized is a better shooting pistol, thats the original size it was designed for the others are cut down versions of the original, unless you move up to the G34

the G17 balance, sight radius, grip are the perfect size, better handling characteristics

but the G19 is a better conceal carry size

I have the 17, 19, and 34. I've been shooting the 17 most due to my round challenge, but I CCW the 19 and shoot USPSA with the 34. Honestly, the 17 fits this no-man's land in the middle between the 19 and the 34, IMO. I don't mind having it around and shoot it well, but I'm not sure it does anything for me that isn't better done by either the 19 or 34, depending on the role.
