    Wildcatting 10mm

    Howdy y'all...

So yesterday I was driving and thinking about .357 Sig, and why someone would bother. I know, I know, there's plenty of fans, but I'm not one of them.

I got this idea though... neck down a 10mm to accept a 110 grain .30 Carbine bullet, and push the sucker extra hot. I could get a custom barrel for my G20, might be neat... since lord knows I don't have enough projects currently in the works already. (sarcasm)

I did some google-fu this morning, and found the ".30 Armco", which is exactly what I was considering. Not much information out there on it... so I'm wondering if anyone here has heard of it.

10mm is my favorite pistol round, so the idea of ruining brass makes me cringe a bit, but trying to get something pushed out to 2400-2500 FPS out of a Glock seems like it'd be dang cool.

    Thoughts?

9x25 Dillon has a broader support for a wildcat. Do you need that much more of a smaller bullet?

Carbine bullets are too long, eats up case capacity.

Lots of similar weirdness back in the gas gun competition days. Then they dropped the level for major and the interest in ballistic self-abuse waned.

9X25 Dillon is both weird and available.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

I'm always playing with the balance between power and recoil. I burn a lot of 10mm now, and found that if I over-do it, it pisses off my arthritis. I do prefer to see my steels flop down with extreme prejudice.

My .460 Rowland is fun as well, but I try to keep my round-count low on that one, thinking that the Glock frame might not handle so much slamming around in the long run.

Given their cost and size, the large-frame (G21/G20) Glock seems like a really good candidate platform for experimentation... so I keep asking myself what I can do to make a bigger boom without going ka-boom.

Mrs. 2111 just shakes her head and says "You're a boom whore".

I think the 9x25 is good choice for you. Most of the set-ups i've seen use the G20 as the host and if you're reloading 9mm, you've already got the bullets.

You could also just cheat and shoot plates with .357sig. 10mm Magnum is(was) also a thing
Most importantly, it's got a GREAT muzzle flash. You like boomers, I like flashers

I've never heard of .30Amcor, but that's cool, I guess.

What about a 10mm necked down for .357 sig? Like a .357 sig magnum.

I used to be crazy about the 10mm hotrodding at the loading bench. Had a slight blowout, but thankfully no damage or injury. As for now a 135 grain JHP at 1550 FPS is enough boom for me. If I want more I’ll bring a 44 mag, 454C or 45/70.

I was looking over available bullets in .308 and there’s an 88 grain Lehigh Defense Cavitator, 100 and 110 grain JHPs and soft points. Those bullets should be devastating at 1800 FPS. 88 grain and lighter should surpass the 2000 FPS mark.

Uh... that's exactly what the 9x25 Dillon already is.

You don't need a fancy wildcat to go light and fast with a 10mm. Why not just buy one of those lightweight solid copper bullet loads for 10mm?

But if a hotrodded cartridge is what you're after, I understand the new Czech 7.5mm handgun cartridge is close to what you speculated about, heck I think it was even based on the 10mm cartridge.

I've shot the 9x25 and knew a few folks that shot them in USPSA matches. Tennis elbow problem developed and they stopped shooting them. They went back to .38 Super and Super Comp. If your not going to a lot of rounds then I would say go for it. With a comp it actually dipped down during recoil! The one I fired was a Para Ordnance open division model.

                          I’m thinking KABOOM!

Buy a .454 Casull or .500 S&W if you want “safe and controlled” KABOOM.

I did have an enormous amount of fun with my brother-in-laws .500 S&W... then I couldn't use my hands for 3 days. That's a bit too much boom for me.
