Very specific S&W question

I am looking for a pre lock, pre mim, 4”, k-frame, round butt S&W revolver with target sights. I’d like something in .38spl and/or .357. I’d also like to know if S&W ever made a revolver chambered in 22lr that had those same dimensions. Can someone tell me if S&W ever produced something like that? Thanks in advance for the help, CGC.

Since you didn't specify a caliber Model 15 too. I think your best bet would be to pick up the S&W Standard Catalog, Amazon has it as an ebook for $33. Probably be faster than back and forth here.

However the 3” and under guns do have a round butt

You could order a Smith in a lot of ways in the 80’s. Combat trigger/ target trigger

S&W would make them a lot of ways.

19-4 look for a pinned barrel makes it easy to spot
in 1982 this was eliminated with the 19-5
round butt was available with 2 1/2 bbl which was introduced in 1966
so the most common round butt variations will be 19-3 or 19-4
model 66 was introduced in 1970
the round butt version was introduced in 1974 as 66 no dash with 2 1/2 inch barrel
66-1 1977 same as above
66-2 introduced in 1982 you lose pinned and recessed
generally look for something pre 1982 or pinned and recessed
S&W started using mim stainless parts before 1982 (686) you can research that info
and if you are gonna get into S&W get the book mentioned earlier
only problem you wont get target sights with the short barrel

The 4" K-frames (Model 19, Model 66, etc.) had square butts. The shorter barreled versions had the round butts. There might be an exception somewhere but that's the only way I've ever seen them.

Edit: I'm not talking about the current production K-frames, only the pre-lock ones. The current ones DO have a round-butt.

If you are in the area, Barnwood Arms in Ripon has acquired a large S&W collection of an elderly gentleman who shot competitively.
I don't believe that thay are all on display, I saw a couple model 10's and model 15's, plus a hand ejector in .38.
Counter guy said some have target sights but I didn't really notice, for some reason I was focused on a model 31 in .32 long and a 469.

Yes, agreed, Model 19 pre dash 4 or Model 15, both blued. Model 66 is the counterpart of the Model 19 in stainless steel.
There is always the Model 10 in 4" (or 6" and 2"), which was a major police carry for a long time. Model 60 (I believe) should be the stainless steel counterpart.
Model 17 is the .22 that you might be searching for, that has Model 617
counterpart in stainless steel. .22's do not have a barrel shorter than 4" in either Model.
All are 'K' Frame Models and have close to same dimensions/weight if the barrels are the same length of course.

The S&W catalogue will be my first order of business. I own enough of them now and I plan to own more so I should invest in some literature. Thanks for the suggestion.

A 4” model 15 with round butt would be awesome. I don’t believe that made them but I’ll have to get myself a smith catalogue to make sure.
