What exactly is the deal? You can bring handguns that aren't on the CA approved list if you are moving here from out of state?

In that case bring a Kel-Tec p11 back!

Exactly. Then you can do private party sales, which do not need to worry about the 'safe gun list'.

The SPP may be. The B&T TP9 pistol, however, could be questionable. I worry about it since it could be argued there's a (albeit limited) barrel shroud, and not sure if it has a threaded bbl? 12276.1 bans:

"A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
          (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor,
          forward handgrip, or silencer.
          (B) A second handgrip.
          (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the
barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his
or her hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
          (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location
outside of the pistol grip. "

Don't forget to get some 10 round mags made up for it. That list only shows 15/20/25/30 round mags available.

                  STI Frames

I second the STI Frames, would be nice building a race gun on one of those. If you do pick any up, be sure to move up North instead

I'd get a 100% completed frame and build it up form there - get a slide form Essex or somewhere similar and customize your own 1911.

As long as you realize that importing non-approved handguns into CA to sell is illegal...

What you should do is compile a list of all the handguns you think you would ever want. Especially if they are from small manufacturers or out of production. Buy all of the ones that aren't on the CA approved list. Enjoy owning what few of us can own. If you ever are in a pinch, sell a handgun or two (or up to 5 in a year) for significantly more than you paid for it.

Don't expect to go into the firearms importing business. Don't put a lot of money into guns that you're not interested in (unless you have (illegally and very quietly) already lined up a high-value buyer for a high-value handgun.) Selling a few handguns per year with a few hundred dollars per gun markup is fine, but hardly would justify your massive investment and the potential DOJ scrutiny unless you were also personally interested in owning the firearms.

of course, I am not a lawyer, and if I were, this still wouldn't be legal advice...

Kel-Tec 32. You would double, if not triple your investment...

Of course you can't bring them back to sell, but who says you aren't a Kel-Tec collector who has decided to part with their collection?

I didn't really say that out loud you know.

I could understand someone buying non-approved handguns before coming to CA. I would too if I am in the same situation. I would max out credit card just to have stuff I am not allowed have in CA, just like full capacity mags before the ban and the 50BMG ban.

I would try to keep everthing of course.

However it is possible that the debt might catch up oneday and I may be forced to sell some stuff to pay off the debt.

                                Perfectly reasonable to me.
