Dan Wesson PM7 or Sig 1911 (about $1000)

PM7 is not tight, not picky for ammo, but accurate.

Got to handle one the other day, really liked it, might want to get one. Seemed really tight, cons were three dot night sights, I would prefer two. Doubt I would, but if wanted to shoot single stack in USPSA, pretty sure it is too heavy. On the plus side the weight must make it shoot like a ***** cat.
So what other on roster 1911’s should I look at that are about $1500?

I believe that the half and full rail TRPs have BULL BARRELS, which I don't think qualify it to shoot in USPSA single stack division. I'm not sure, but please look it up and confirm if that's what you want to do with it.... consider the, uh, non-railed TRP. And honestly, you can shoot USPSA with a $500 RIA 1911 and have fun and be competitive.


I should add that my friend's half railed TRP was probably the "easiest to shoot accurately" handguns I've ever shot. I mean, it amazed me how well it shot and how I could put bullet after bullet in the bullseye.

Agree with bmk20398 above.

PM7 > TRP full rail. I have both but the Wesson is nicer and has been more reliable. Unless a rail is an absolute must the Dan Wesson is the better gun (in my experience anyway).

A Sig 1911 and a case of 45 should probably in consideration to for the same $. Sigs can be a bit funky on holster selection but so is the TRP full rail (even more so).

I recently acquired a TRP Full-rail. I've been shooting Kimbers and own a GM 2 and a Stainless Target 9mm. The TRP is much tighter than either, surprisingly so. I wouldn't compare a DW PM7 with a railed TRP. They just seem like different classes of 1911. I believe the TRP is the best bang for your buck as it is feature rich with adjustable sights, magwell, front checkering and a bull barrel. It could easily serve as a range toy and double as a nightstand gun. I couldn't say the same for the PM7 in it's stock configuration.

You are correct. Also the dust cover is too long. You'll be able to shoot a club match because probably no one will care, but if you want to go to any higher level sanctioned matches you will not be allowed to compete.

The weight limit for single stack division is 43 ounces, the full rail TRP is listed as 45 ounces.

I have had my TRP Operator full rail for 2 years now and absolutely love it! Feeds any ammo and recoil is mitigated by the weight quite a bit. The quality is excellent and it looks amazing.

I wanted to like the full rail TRP, bought 2 of them over the years. They are just too heavy for practical use and more of a novelty. TRP is a much better option if SA floats your boat, I've owner a couple really nice ones too.

3 years ago I bought a Baer and I'm done.
