Wilson Combat Supergrade Ca question

Looking for thoughts and input....
I've been considering a Wilson Classic 1911 purchase. Both the classic and the Sipergrade Classic are on roster. However, when going thru WC website and looking at the supergrade, I see that it doesn't come with any of the "bulletproof" parts.

So, I'm wondering: is a supergrade worth the extra cost if you can't get the Bulletproof parts? Bring that I'm Ca resident, WC wont/can't sell the Classic Supergrade with the bullet parts I would like, so I don't think I would want to spend that much extra. Me thinks it would be better to get a Classic and then upgrade BulletProof parts later. I just can't see spending $5k on Supergrade PLUS more to get the BP parts on a handgun that's should ALREADY have the BP parts. In looking at WC 's website, it shows that Supergrades are standard with BP parts.

WC can't upgrade any part on CA roster gun, or it would be considerded as an off roster gun.

Don’t blame Wilson, blame CA lawmakers. There is nothing Wilson can do, their hands are tied.

You can buy a CA Supergrade then send it back for another $2k-$3k in work to have full bullet proof parts and a finish you like. There is a thread around here from last year of a guy who did just that. But maybe getting a CQB and sending it back for the royal treatment pencils out better.

I picked up a barely used CA CQB for $2k and plan to send it back for the works. Have not gotten around to it yet. Personally, I would not spend a dime over $3k for a CA Supergrade, because I know another $2k is needed to bring it to free state/current spec.

Yes, get the Classic and upgrade the parts later.

If for some reason you would rather order a Supergrade, speak with some WC dealers, as you're likely to get it much faster than ordering direct.
The dealers place builds in the queue, often for a year or more, so they come up sooner.

I took a Colt Gold Cup and removed all of the parts from the frame and slide and sent them to Wilson Combat, and had them fit the slide to the frame and install all Bullet Proof parts and a barrel. They also refinished the frame and slide and now I have basically a Supergrade

mind to share total cost range? is it a gold cup national match? i know national match doesn't have front checker, so I am wondering if wilson works on it

I almost sent mine back to have it “bulletproofed” ended up not doing it. Overall I regret the purchase as it is not what I want and wasted an off roster spot before SSE. It was supposed to be a custom CQB, but Tractus Arms messed up my order and basically sent me a super grade instead. Maybe I still will send it back someday.

I don't think that's entirely correct OP. If memory serves there are some bullet proof parts in the CA guns but there are a couple that aren't. A little searching over on the Wilson board of the 1911 forum and you should be able to sort this out. Or you could just call Wilson and ask them.

But...

Even their non bulletproof parts are still VERY good. And you can always order your gun and ask them to build and fit the bulletproof parts, and include them with the shipment. There is no law about ordering "spare parts." Then you can simply swap the parts yourself when the gun arrives. Note too that you may want to ask them to fit a spare extractor as well...as it's always nice to have a spare one of those.

The parts issue is easy to solve, per the above. It's if you want something major like a different finish or different frame than what's on the approved list.

Better off asking if a stocking dealer can sell you the gun, ship it back to Wilson and have them swap the parts for BP parts and just charge the difference - either way paying extra on top of the 5k for a super grade is painful and for 5k you can get a lot more 1911 than that.

I think someone on 1911forum did this route and he paid full price on upgrade around 2k-3kish

Occasionally the Stockade & Fowler's would get them in stock. I hear that the Stockade has been closed. I own a Ca Classic SG and think that they are overprice. When I bought mine I was not informed that they did not have the B/P parts. Even with thin grips it is a tad oversize for my hands and due to the same reasoning it does not sit down in my hand as much as I like.
