    WTF.....Ruger gunsmith N. Cal

I have a Ruger SP101 in 357. Great little revolver...problem is it's in 2.25 inch barrel and I found a spare 3.25 barrel. So I need to find a gunsmith in the Bay area (to sac area) that will replace the barrel for me without charging the price equivalent to a new gun.

    Thanks

I recently had a very good experience with a Ruger repair at Glaser Arms in Brentwood. He is closed Sunday and Monday, but give him a call when you can and see where it goes (925-240-1925).
Life was simpler, and more honest, when revolvers and lever actions were the rule.

Call Ruger. They have a custom shop.

Here’s a guy I found that does Sp101/GP100 work, but he’s outta state in VA.

A revolver barrel swap is simple IF the barrel/cylinder gap lines up and the it gets clocked right. If things don’t line up, the gunsmith may need to turn the barrel threads and recut the barrel face, adjust the barrel gap, recut/polish the forcing cone. Lucky that you got a Ruger since he may also need to would just shorten the ejector rod. If it was a S&W, more work is involved.

Not really plug and play. Maybe that guy you got the quote from thinking the worst case scenario but still his quote is kinda high.

I had him do trigger work on my S&W 342 and 351, very pleased with his work and turn-around.
You can search his name here and find other recommendations/reviews.
Another vote for Craig. He has done a lot of revolver work for me from action jobs to barrel replacement. Mostly S&W's but he can do Rugers too.
