Friend selling one of these. He's original owner. Has original box, paperwork, etc. Only 20-30 rounds fired. So it's pretty much 99%. What would be a fair offer on this? Thanks, C Good

Smith Wesson Model 59. Friend selling. Fair offer?

The 59 is a nice gun but pretty dated. Parts can be hard to get and there were a lot of that model made, so they aren't rare. Also, here in CA the extra weight and girth of the doublestack frame doesn't do you any good - a Model 39 might be better.
That said I have seen people asking $700-ish for them but the ones I know that sold were generally closer to $450-$500.
SW 4th Edition Catalog estimates ANIB $900, Excellent, $600, Very Good $500, Good $350 -

Regardless of your description, no one can give you a very accurate value assessment without photos.Comment

It might help if you added your friends location. The gun is not on the CA Roster so shipping to a CA FFL won't work. PPT will...maybe??, because of the hi-cap magazine. Out of state FFL will.WITHOUT THE 2nd THERE WON'T BE A 1st...]Comment

Yep, I have a couple for mine as well. When the last dumb law was passed and anything over 10 rounds became illegal I had to get a couple to keep things under the radar. Was about ready to send the 14's to my brother in Montana, and a very smart judge killed the one part of the law about even owning a hi-cap illegal. Still can't buy, make, or import a hi-cap, but at least owning one isn't. Now if we could get rid of the rest of the hi-cap law, and get rid of the Handgun Roster, I'd be a happy camper....WITHOUT THE 2nd THERE WON'T BE A 1st...]Comment
