Getting into holsters

I'd love to start doing shooting drills from the holsters but I'd like a few reccomendations. Also I'm not sure if you need a specific one for participating in matches. Hoping there is an all purpose type of holster that works for most guns.

This would be for a stainless TRP full rail and a cz75 sp01.

i sort of had this feeling holsters were going to be a world in itself haha but I'd rather learn through those with experience instead of buying the first thing that fits and later regretting it.

I've never owned a holster except for the one that came with my sig so i cant answer where i like to wear. I suppose at my right hip as i see lots of shooters in videos use them this way. Minimal retention i guess. As for matches, the only ones i know of are called IDPA. Are you telling me you need several types of holsters depending on the type of match?

Blade tech seems to be the most common holster I see in uspsa. Unless you’re gonna shoot open then guys start getting into crazy stuff but a basic holster to start would be good then see from there.

have a c's card left over so im looking at this. Im assuming this will work for both my 1911 and CZ?

There is NEVER a “one holster does all.” Not gonna find it. I have two flight helmet bags with dozens of holsters. It’s a never ending quest to find the “right” holster for a gun (singular).

There is a one size fits all holster that works fairly well. The Blackhawk Omnivore. There are two flavors, the one for any gun with a picatinny rail (via the rail attachment device) and the one for guns with mounted tac lights (via the tac light).

Both work fairly well and are retention holsters where you have to push down on a lever to release the gun. They work plenty good for any USPSA/IDPA/holster work you'd think of outside of duty use.

While it's not as slick as a purpose made bladetech or safariland holster, for under $40 you can't go wrong. And on the plus side, it's an excellent backup holster if you choose something else later on down the line or if you bring a friend to a match and they don't have any equipment.

The first style of holster is more in line with the bladetech type competition holsters folks end up using for minimal retention and max speed...

I would generally avoid the second kind with the paddle retention device on the side, with that draw stroke your finger can get inside the trigger guard as you draw... Google Glock leg and serpa holsters...

Whichever holster you decide on, practice with it, with an unloaded firearm before you decide to go do anything with it, so that you're familiar and proficient in it's usage

If you dont have a holster for doing "shooting drills" that means you have never had any professional training on safely drawing and deploying your weapon. GET SOME GOOD PROFESSIONAL TRAINING so you dont hurt yourself or anyone else, not to mention learning to draw your weapon properly.

As for holsters... a quality holster will always be weapon specific. all the generic holsters arent worth crap.

The omnivor is a thumb drive to release the retention. Nice holster and worth getting. Kind of large but still a good holster.
Bladetech, uncle mikes, forbis, and safari land all make good holsters.

Your choices of holster are going to be more limited with the full rail. I'm not sure that Bladetech makes a holster for your gun. I think Bladetech only offers 1/2 rail holsters.

Garrett Holsters, aka GIHolsters.com, makes a variety of holsters for your guns. They are leather lined kydex, and offer good retention and a smooth silent draw.

For OWB range work, G Code and Safariland are two of my favorites. I like the modularity of their systems and their quick mounting options for moving things around. I've also got a TREX Arms Ragnarok that is decent and compatible with the Safariland and G Code mounts.

Also give some thought to the belt that you intend to use as it might impact the purchase with respect to how you mount the holster on the belt.
