    Dan Wesson - Need Help

I feel really dumb asking this question but I need it answered.

I just got my Dan Wesson Pointman and I am unable to remove the barrel. The barrel bushing is still in the slide and I assuming that it needs to be removed in order to remove the barrel.

Can someone confirm that the barrel bushing needs to be removed in order to remove the barrel. And advise what is the best way to remove the barrel bushing.

Again, sorry for the stupid question. I just don't want to mess up this gun.

turn it couterclockwise looking down the barrel and it should come out.

Read the directions that came with the gun.

If you don't have the directions, look up disassembly of the 1911. (hint: there is one on the Dan Wesson Web site)

At about the 4 o'clock position, the barrel bushing should come out.

Since you seem to be new at 1911's let me offer this piece of advice:

Be careful putting the slide stop back in! Too many of my guns have horrible "idiot marks" from a momentary lapse in attention.

ditto, use a mini flat head to depress the bar, then push the stop in!

I sandwich the stop between my right thumb and index finger, I stand up looking straight down at my workspace, I use my left hand to steady the frame and press straight down with the stop. The standing up part may be a little extreme, but it gives you a good idea on the angle that you should be going. You want to push it down and not forwards.

The bushing on my PM7 is really, really tight - I have to use a bushing wrench on it, it isn't finger turnable. You cal get a nice sturdy Wilson Combat one from Midway for around $3 or so, worth every penny.

The bushing on my PM7 was horrendously uncooperative last weekend. I finally got it to break free after much coercion, but it was a total bastard to accomplish. No harm no foul in the long run, but I found it strange that it just wouldn't budge out of the slide.

But sweet baby Jesus, that thing shoots like a dream.
