Good .22LR Revolvers

So, I'm looking to get my dad a birthday present, and I've been looking around at .22LR pistols. I've checked out the semi-autos, and it looks like the hands-down winner is the Ruger, but what about for revolvers? I'd prefer to keep it under $400; anyone have any experiences with something along those lines?

Ruger Single Six Convertible - 22LR and 22Mag. Mine goes to the range almost every time I go.

Old Smith and Wesson 22Lr

See if you can find an older 22lr Smith and Wesson double action revolver e.g., a used model 17 or 18 (K frame) or 34 or 43 (J frame).

The older S&Ws are superb shooters, better (in my opinion) than new revolvers.

I have several 22LR revolvers, and S&W are the best without a doubt.

If you get lucky you might find one of the above for $400 or so used.

I have 2 of the 317 airlites, if you can find them they are the coolest thing going. The dont weigh a thing.

German made and definitely the .22 revolver that your DAD'll be proud to shoot.
Plus, it comes with 22 magnum cylinder as well.

S&W 617 10-shot revolver, great little gun.

My wife has a S&W Model 34 and I have a .22 Colt Trooper, as well as a Ruger Single Six. All are excellent revolvers.

S&W 34-1, classic P&R 6 shot 22lr revolver in a nice original blue finish. You can't beat that unless it's an original 17 you're getting. I just sold one and miss it already. Grrrrr...

Your price range leaves out pretty much all of the S&W revolvers. Plus, older models are pretty hard to find in California.

If you can swing the extra expense, the 617 is the best you can get for a full-size revolver, and the longer barreled 317 is a good bet for a light, compact model (the snubby 317 suffers from a short barrel and unfriendly hammer, IMO). The 317's not as accurate as the 617, IME.

If you want to keep with the $400 target, the Single Six is the best bet by far. The EAA Bounty Hunter and Heritage Rough Rider are OK, but the fit and finish on the Single Six are substantially better. My Single Six is a good bit more accurate than my Bounty Hunter, but it's also got a 9.5" barrel.

There are lots of inexpensive used ones, like the Taurus 94, High Standard Sentinels, etc, but none of them are very accurate.

In your price range, the Ruger Single Six is the hands-down winner, IMO.

I was going to say the same exactly, S&W K frame .22lr revolvers are a pleasure to own and shoot.

A good friend of mine purchased a nice Smith & Wesson 22 revolver from their "Classic" line-up... can't recall the model, but it's stainless and has a 3 or 4" barrel and is built on the J frame. The DA trigger is stiff, but it's a hoot to shoot in single action!

It did seem a little expensive though.
