    MK III Hunter Ammo Question

I got a new MKIII Hunter and it does NOT like Federal bulk ammo. I get at least 2 FTE's/ jam in the ejection port from each of four different brand new magazines.

I stripped and cleaned it before I shot and yes I did put it back together correctly

I have heard that they may be initially picky on ammo. Before I bust out the Dremel and start "fixing" the mags as suggested on RimfireCentral.com, I was wondering if there was a "better" ammo to try. My MK II I recently sold had no issues with any ammo other than occasionally with subsonics.

With the state of ammo today (my local place is sold out of .22 ) I'd like suggestions before I start ordering online.

I have a MKII target and had the same problem...it was a shame because the Fed ammo shoots tight groups. I changed out the extractor to a Power Custom A-2 Sharp Claw Extractor that I picked up from Midway USA for about $10. It's rated 5 stars by the reviewers and rips cases out of the chamber like nobody's business and flings them smartly. I have not had any trouble since. Install is pretty easy. Good luck.

You need the magazine tweek that you read about at rimfirecentral. Do one mag and see how it works.

I did both my mags and it has been perfect with all ammo since.

My Hunter has eaten about 1500 of the plated 36gr Super X's (333 pack) without issue.

I had the same problem when I first took out my NIB MKIII to the range with the Federal bulk ammo I shoot.

          This solved it.

            Thanks everyone

Looks like busting out the file is the way to go.

I'm glad you posted this. I picked up my MK III hunter on Saturday and had the same thing happen to me about 4 times out of maybe 200 rounds. Looks like grinding is in my near future. Thanks guys.

Hey, thanks a lot for the advice on grinding the mags. I've had this problem pop up with my Mark II and certain types of ammo.

FYI, my Ruger likes CCI MiniMags the best as far as accuracy and reliability.

I guess I'm lucky, I have not found any ammo that my MKIII Hunter will not eat. It has been a fantastic pistol.

Yeah my MK II ran fine on everything but hollow points. This MK III has been a bit of a head scratcher.

Those are the instructions that I followed and it solved the problems I was having. I've shot several bricks of various maunfacture ammo thru it since with no issues.
