CZ P-01 vs HK P2000

Following the election results my wife finally didn't object when I told her I'd like a new handgun before the new year. I'm torn between the P-01 and the P2000. Both of them are just over $600. I realize the P-01 can normally be had for closer to $550, but they are OOS everywhere and the one I found is going for a premium as a result.

Ideally I'd be able to fire both before buying, but that isn't going to happen due to the holidays and my timeline. I have handled the P2000 V3 DA/SA and it feels nice...the trigger is much better than I've read. I would probably lean toward the V2 LEM version but either would fine. I've handled an SP-01 and it felt great in the hand but the LOP was a tad too long for me. I am not sure the P-01 would be any different.

Can anyone confirm whether the ergos of the P-01 are the same as the SP-01? With price being equal which would you choose?

The ergos are the same as the SP01 except a bit shorter. You can change the grips to slightly alter the thick/thiness of the pistols. I have never seen a P01 under $649 and the inventory for those are always low to "waiting list". You do from time to time catch a shop who carries one. HK and CZ are two different guns. One being polymer with paddle mag release and the other steel or aluminum with US/standard mag release. The P01 will be smaller and lighter since the SP01 is steel. Best to rent the two before buying (or at least hold the two in hand)

I had a p2000 be put a lot of rounds through it and HATED the trigger. The trigger broke clean enough for me, but the reset was way too long and after it "reset" there was a ton of take up until it "hit the wall" again. After shooting 1911s, glocks and revolvers I never could get used to that reset with so much take up. I SHOULD have converted it to LEM if I had known about it at the time i would have. Besides that I liked the gun.

Things that CZ-P01 has that HK P2000 don't:
- Metal frame.
- Accessories available.
- Cajon Gun Work (these guys can made your CZ from good to better, from better to best)
I say , WAIT for CZ-P01, if your COF allow only 1 pistol.
OR get the P2000 now and then you get the CZ-P01 later (aka buy both ).

Both. Completely different beasts! Ergos of the P-01 are great, but I also like the feel of the P2K. The P2K LEM is great, in fact it’s my EDC. My P-01 has been cajunized and it’s simply amazing. Only reason it’s not on my CCW is it’s had too many modifications, I didn’t think it would be approved by my IA. It is the same grip ergos as the SP-01. Both are great for range use and I shoot both regularly. Less recoil with P-01. Small slide on the CZ and large slide on the HK.

Only suggestion is to shoot both. Or buy either one, then by the other later

Having a P2000sk .40SW with the light LEM trigger for more than a decade, I have absolutely no hesitation recommending it. In fact, it's my EDC. Mine has the night sights. I use the P2000/USPc magazine and X-Grip so I have 10+1 capacity and essentially the same grip as the P2000, just the shorter barrel of the sub-compact. The trigger is very clean and light (4.5-5#), with a crisp break and reasonable reset. Much prefer that trigger over the DA/SA but then all my HK's (except P7M8) either have or are getting the light LEM.

I've fired the P-01 and it seems like a solid handgun. I'm actually considering one myself. I don't think you could go wrong with either.

CZ P-01 will shoot flatter with less muzzle flip because of the low bore axis. Replace the stock recoil spring with an 11# spring. The CZ’s trigger has the potential to be better. Install the CZ decocker comp hammer T2 disco, and CGN short reset kit with the shadowline or newer 85C trigger and you can have a short reset with very little take up on the SA pull. The CZs FCG can be smoothed out for a gritless trigger pull. Install an extended firing pin, lighter fpb spring, lighter fpb spring, and an 11# hammer spring.

After the slide cyckesbyou just release the trigger just past the reset. Don’t release it all the way.

P01s pop up here all the time for better prices than MSRP, if you trust yourself to spot a really abused one. I got mine secondhand and it's been extremely satisfying to own.

That being said, it's hard to imagine someone treating it harder than NATO did.

For carry, i think the p2000 is the winner. It is light, compact, excellent trigger for defensive purposes. Try to rent one if possible.

...Or, just buy an HK with a lem and be done!
