Need to send my brand new Sig P220 Combat to the factory. Does anyone know how the process works. Never had to send a gun to the manufacture. How long does it take? Do they send the gun back to me or a FFL? If to a FFL, do I need to re DROS it? It seems the feed problem is not fixable without factory help.

What kind of ammo? -
If it's clean,(and lubed), try some different style bullets. My bro's internal extractor 220 is a bit of a finicky eater, my external extractor 220 digests just about anything. Or if you're shooting reloads, you may have to adjust case length, sometime the recommended length just does not work,Last edited by checkenbach; 04-06-2009, 8:40 PM.Comment

Since those are reloads take the barrel out of the gun and drop a few of the reloads into the barrel. They should drop in smoothly. When I reload my 45s I put the finished rounds through a resizer die that squeezes the case back to factory ammo specs. If I don't I will get some cases that are oversized. Another problem could be the overall length of the round is out of spec. Try some factory ammo and you probably find your gun works fine. MarkComment

When I got my 226 back in December, the slide positively would not open after the last round. We traced it back to faulty mags...apparently Sig had sent out a truckload of out of spec magazines. Older rmags solved the problem. I don't know if this problem--or something like it-- carried over to the 220.
My Dan Wesson PM7 is kind of a finicky eater as well. It gets fussy at feed time when you rack the slide manually, but again, magazines may be the culprit as I did not get the factory mags with the weapon.
I'm hopeful the McCormick 8 rounders I've ordered will solve the problem. Best of luck with your 220....they're great guns! The Answer To 1984 Is 1776

It could be a couple of things causing the rounds to hang up, and as has been mentioned reloads could be the cause.
-Make sure the magazine is seated all the way. I'm sure you are, but it constantly amazes me how many people don't do this.
-Check the feed ramp on the barrel to make sure it's nice and smooth with no areas where a round can snag.
-Field strip the gun and check the locking insert (the barrel rests above this when the pistol is assembled). With the gun facing away from you
make sure you have the correct locking insert (should be 5 small dimples on the right side).
-Sig redesigned their P220 magazines a while back with a "dimple" above the 2 indicator mark that is supposed to aid in holding the top round in the magazine. There has been some speculation that this can cause the same problem you are experiencing. If you know anyone with an older factory mag, try theirs. Or you could try an aftermarket magazine to see if the problem goes away (I highly recommend Novak ACT's)
-If all else fails, contact Sig to make things right. Make sure they send you a pre-paid shipping label so you don't have to pay to fix what should run right in the first place.Comment

I appreciate everybody's feed back. This is my first Sig and I know their rep so i'm not really concerned. This is what I have done since yesterday. Bought another 8 round mag and some PMC ball ammo. I loaded the new mag with PMC and it's still not feeding. Loaded it with Speer Gold Dot LE and still same problem. Tried all mags and four different ammo brands. I will guarantee it is something stupid but I would rather look like a fool than send her away to Sig and look like a fool. If anyone would like to help out, I am planning on going to Insight on Saturday and would love if a Sig guy could take a look. I would be willing to pay your range time, cash for your time or something. Just want this fixed. PM me if interested.Comment

Sounds like you have an extractor problem...is it an internal or external extractor? I recently experienced a few failure to feed problems with my Sig 220 ST & remedied it by reshaping & streamlining the bottom of the extractor. Contact Sig & they will take care of the problem if you are under warranty. Good luck.
I am too busy this Saturday, otherwise I'd be willing to look at it for you.Comment
