Single Action Only trigger for handgun with decocker?

    I have an odd question:

What would happen if a SAO trigger was installed in a DA/SA handgun with a decocker, such as the CZ P-01? I'm thinking that you would have to manually cock the hammer back before the gun would shoot, right? If you pressed the trigger when the hammer was down, would the trigger move back but not engage the hammer? Or would the trigger be fixed in place until you cocked the hammer? Would the decocker do anything?

    Thanks for any information!

A SAO trigger can only release the sear, so pulling it on a decocked gun would be the same as pulling it on an unloaded, condition 4 gun.

Installing/using a decocker on SAO gun would have all the same issues as a 1911 in Condition 2. Yes, you'd have to manually cock the hammer and no, the trigger wouldn't cause the hammer to move.

Hmm...Cajun Gun Works says they can't convert a decocker gun to single action only. I guess that's that.

Depends on the gun. S&W made some single action only versions of the normally DA/SA model 14 revolver. Pulling the trigger only spins the cylinder doesn't drop hammer.

The Browning High Power can be fitted with a safety that when disengaged it cocks the hammer it's called like the SFS system. This is a single action only handgun.

The trigger system that seemed to go a little over the norm was the Korean firearms manufacturer Daewoo with its " triple action " pistol...

I thought about mentioning that one too. I actually have one. I don't really like the tri action trigger.

In a CZ 75 variant decocker converted to SAO, the trigger would be dead until you cocked the hammer. The trigger would still move but i would not engage with anything (floppy trigger, do not let it happen to you ).

The decockering lever would still function with the hammer at full cock, it would decock to the half cock position, again dead trigger in this situation. Edit:After thinking further on the subject, I will need to double check this one, it brings up an interesting timing question that i am not entirely clear on. Edit2:It seams that it may be possible to drop the hammer from the half cock position in an SAO set up. I do not have any of my 75 variants set up SAO, just not my preference. The only SAO CZ that i own is the Tac Sport and it will drop the hammer from the half cock position when the trigger is pulled. Maybe another forum member with a 75 set up as SAO will chime in with more info on the subject.

For the DA pull to function normally in a CZ, the disconnector must be present so that the trigger bar can push on it to actuate the hammer. SAO conversions generally have the disconnector removed.

I believe that the issue with converting a CZ decocker to SAO and why it is not advisable is one of safety. Once converted to SAO a decocker model would have a short SA trigger without the benefit of a safety lever. It would be like disabling or removing the safety from a 1911. Not a viable option.
