My opinion is that an HK Expert factory trigger is superior to any Glock trigger I have ever used, including aftermarket.

Second call holding time was only about 2 minutes: A very curt gentleman with a southern drawl picks up. I briefly explained the issue and asked for a return authorization.

He runs the serial number and says "That pistol was sold back in in February, 2017"

        Yes, it was. To me.

With a disbelieving tone: "You have had the pistol since then and this was the first time it has been shot?"

Yes. Feel free to examine the pistol to verify it is devoid of any sign of wear.

Hmm. It sounds like the trigger bar is bent. That happens when someone forces the key into the lock and forces it open or closed (I am paraphrasing here, but the trigger bar and safety "key" were what he was referring to.)

O.K. So can I send it in?

        "Yes...Send it to ........."

No return label was offered, thus I am expected to eat the postage, presumably. I will probably use the "Ship my gun" service. Otherwise I have a fabulous looking $1000 paperweight sitting in my safe.

I suppose I could throw it at a bad guy to buy enough time to grab something that works. So, there's that.

Not cool. When you do ship, can you give us an idea of the price to HK?

Nice. What do you think of that x300?

Im looking for something that will look good on the expert, and hold up to range trips.

Good to hear, does it "break in" over time?

I've got some snap caps, wondering if that will make a difference.

Good to know, I have a TLR-4 green laser coming for the HK expert, strictly for home defense for now.

Im noticing how big the trigger guard is, hoping this will be a workable solution.

Regarding your expert, is your hammer spring stock?

I ran 220 rounds through mine to break it in sunday and so far its been working 100%.

                  Long overdue update:

I would be remiss not to post the epilogue of this story. It may be useful to others in the future who encounter the same type of issue. HK did repair* and test fire the pistol, sending it back to my LGS within about 2 weeks or so.

The return documentation indicated that the "firing pin block spring" was replaced and the pistol function checked and was test fired to ensure good working order.

*Since I have not had time to shoot it yet, I have not verified this personally, but I am reasonably confident it is fixed. I will not consider the pistol to be suitable for any HD / SD purpose until I do so.

I used the "Ship My Gun" service and was not thrilled with it. I followed the instructions carefully, paid for the label which was a little over $50. I inexplicably did not receive the shipping label via email, which should have arrived quickly one payment was approved. After two days, I emailed SMG to inquire where my label was. On the same day I got a notification from SMG that there was error on my part and the addresses were not valid. Even though I followed the instructions carefully, SMG somehow got the addresses reversed and thought I was trying to ship the gun from HK to my LGS. This was their error, not mine.

After getting the label corrected I took it to my LGS, which is on SMG's drop down list of associated FFL dealers. I thought the SMG label would cover all associated costs, but my LGS still charged me a transfer fee for $25. I need to emphasize here that this LGS is great. I had no problem with their fee once they told me that they do not receive any portion of the SMG fee. They also provided to me a proper Fedex box to pack the gun in.

So I ended up taking a hit of $80+ to resolve this issue. HK did not offer to cover any of the expenses of shipping the gun to them, even though the gun was defective out of the box. It somehow slipped through their presumably stringent quality control standards. That was a major disappointment to me from a company that charges a premium for their products and touts their extreme reliability to justify the inflated sticker price.

Yeah, that return service is crapola. My nib Kimber had issues as well.. But they sent me a printable pre paid shipping label. But likewise a "premium" nib pistol that would not pass QC had it been reasonably tested at the time of manufacture.

I take no pleasure in posting this sordid tale, but it is exactly what happened. The rep on the phone was obviously doubtful as to my claim and it seemed that they were giving me a gift by issuing me an RMA number. No one from HK ever contacted me again after the initial phone call or gave me any type of update. I almost forgot all about it until my LGS called me to say it arrived back to them. Hopefully it will work now.

I just check my HK USP Elite .45ACP. Both safeties position (S/F) work for both hammer Up or Down.

It is an anomaly to get a defective product from HK. I have another USP .45 and a VP9 that are right on the money.

Anything can happen on the "production" gun. I always shoot the heck out of all my new gun or at least 1K rds while it still on the warranty (the first year) to clear out all of the manufacture defect.
