The Sig DAK (Double Action Kellerman) with Range Photos . . .

Early this year, I bought a LNIB 2005 Sig P229R DAK in .40 S&W on consignment. I prefer to shoot 357 Sig in the pistol with an extra barrel I purchased from Sig Sauer. I have other Sig pistols which are DA/SA.

Although I've found the DAK trigger to be a bit challenging, I like shooting it. DAK has two reset points. The first (short) reset point gives about an 8.5# pull, whereas the second (long) reset gives about a 6.5# smooth and easy pull. Kellerman (an engineer at Sig Sauer) did not intend for the shooter to routinely use the short reset, instead he intended that it be shot as a long stroke DAO. He provided the short reset to prevent the shooter from "short stroking" when firing under stress.

I've gotten more use to the DAK with each time I've taken it to the range, about 5 or 6 times this year. The targets below were shot earlier today. The first target was shot with the second magazine of the day when I was fresh. I'm a firm believer that one's best groups of the day will be shot during the first 50 rounds of he session.

So, what do you guys with experience with DAK think about the trigger system?

I've never tried DAK. Both my P229's are DA/SA. If it were mine, I'd convert it. Nice shootin, though.

That is a nice one you have, legacy slide model. You know the Coast Guard was the first military branch to retire the M9, and this P229 DAK .40 was the gun they chose to replace it. http://www.smallarmsreview.com/displ...darticles=1671

I also have one in 40SW, got it for only $500 PPT. I modernized it with E2 grips & guts with the new style red DAK mainspring and new style blue recoil spring, Ameriglo front, Siglite #10 rear, and Gray Guns P-SAIT Legion trigger with overtravel stop. I love it, very accurate pistol.

The DAK is a little nicer with the overtravel stop and the contoured trigger, I recommend it as an easy/cheap mod.

This pic was before the Legion trigger was installed

This 10yd/30ft pic was taken before I changed out the #8 rear for a #10 rear. Before, as this pic shows, the shots were low for my preferred sight picture. Now they are right on the money for me with #10 rear.
