    PPT Question

    I met someone who moved to CA last week and wants to sell a couple guns to help cover moving expenses. He already went to the DMV to get a CA Drivers License, but my only question was does he have to fill out and mail in a BOF 4010A before he can sell anything? If I'm reading it correctly on the DOJ website it seems he has a 60 day grace period to either fill out the BOF 4010A, sell the guns to an FFL or individual, or surrender/sell to a law enforcement agency.

    Pursuant to Penal Code sections 17000 and 27560, any person who moves into California with a firearm is considered a "Personal Firearm Importer" and is required by California law to do one of the following within 60 days: Complete and submit a New Resident Report of Firearm Ownership (BOF 4010A), pdf along with $19.00 to the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms; Sell or transfer the firearm to a California licensed firearms dealer or to another individual using a California licensed firearms dealer to conduct the transaction; or Sell or transfer the firearm to a California

      He can sell it immediately through a FFL. But he has to have valid CA id first.

          Does he have to show proof that he has been here less than 60 days?

              No, as soon as he receives his CA ID he may sell as a PPT.

                  Okay thanks. That's what I thought too, but someone told me he has to submit a BOF 4010A first. I guess that was just FUD.
