    P320 80% Build Questions

So I understand I have to request a serial number and have it engraved before I begin to build it. But when selecting the options on CFARS can you register it as just a frame? Has anyone tried registering as just a frame and submitting the pictures? I plan on getting parts gradually but starting with just the insert. Also, I see mixed opinions on building as single shot and converting to semi legality. Anything else important I do?

Don't think you can convert it back to semi once you register it as single shot.

I'm not sure it would matter.

I have yet to see a dimensionally compliant upper for a single shot build. Unless somebody came out with a long barrel I haven't seen.

We have customers who have successfully registered P320s as single shot using our kit. The Easy Bolt is compatible with most variants of the P320 (the important fitment dimension being the front of the frame and the front of the slide being flush). Our Barrel inserts work with any 9mm barrel, extending to the legally required length as well as rendering the handgun single shot. This is how many FFLs did their single shot transfers during SSE1.

Registering a bare frame does not seem to be a viable option per the roster rules. DOJ typically doesn't even allow transfers of stripped frames of on-roster handguns. It would technically have to be built in a roster exempt configuration to be eligible. We have had customers successfully register semi auto after providing pictures that it was first built single shot, but we can't advise people to do this (do it at your own risk).

This thread has some good info on the subject, asking the same question myself. The straight forward answer is California wants to make it as burdensome as possible to do anything related to firearms

Yes. The caveat (and reason why we can't advise people to do this) is that DOJ doesn't make legal determinations. They might process the registration but your local DA might have a different opinion on the legality of it. Until there is case law we won't know 100%. We can only recommend our customers speak with an attorney.

LOL, it's probably cheaper to just buy the gun than buying the parts and speaking to an attorney. I'll also bet it's difficult to find an attorney that's going to advise to go for it, no worries.
