    Inexpensive but reliable laser?

Can someone please recommend an inexpensive but reliable laser that mounts via a Picatinny rail? I want to put one on my home defense gun. Thanks.

I think the trouble is inexpensive. What kind of budget are you looking at?

The most popular gun laser companies are Crimson Trace & LaserMax. I have also looked at Viridian because I like green lasers in a daytime setting. I don't think CT has any rail-mounted lasers, but both LaserMax and Viridian do. Neither are "cheap."

I don't have any experience so far with either company's products, so I will turn this over to others.

Insight M6. its a laser/light combo that will go on your gun's rail. about $175 on ebay. I went with a NcStar...forget which model but its basically a copy of the M6 for little over $100. thats about as cheap as i would go for home defense.hth

Another vote for the M6, I carry one on my pistol everyday... To be honest for a HD gun I would value a weapon mounted light over a stand alone laser

I'd like to stay in the $200 or less area, but I'd go higher for something of superior quality if necessary. A friend of mine from another gun board said those lasermax units break. He's been through 3 units - the customer service was great but the product itself was junk.

About your comment regarding a light, does anyone have any experience with the Streamlight TRL-2 that has a laser + light for around $230-250?

Edit: I just looked up the Insight M6 you gentlemen recommended and realized it too is a light + laser. I misread your earlier posts. Does anyone have any thoughts on an Insight M6x versus a Streamlight TRL-2? They're about the same price.

The M6 is a light and laser unit also -

One last question - the units on eBay seem to be the older M6 rather than the current M6x model (supposedly improved). Is the older M6 no good? It's much, much cheaper than the M6x.

More high speed - Really though - I don't know the huge diff. other than the X is better built to handle the recoil - I have the older unit - Works great for the money -

Really, how useful are these lasers? What purpose do they serve without NV?

Go with a tactical flash light. You can see as well as blinding incoming adversaries.
