And OPs got the equipment right there to fire off the primer if he so desires.

Just do it in a safe area and may be expecting it to be louder than you think it will be.
( you know, put your video tape of Scarface on loud at the ending battle scene and burn some popcorn to cover the smell and your wife will never know. )

Then clean your gun and put it back into it's new position as a gun part.

Yeah, I think I would do this before using it. The primer would bother me too much. Even though the smell of powder is better than burnt popcorn. :-)

My wife lost one from her Kimber when she first got it. We found that thing under the washer months later when I moved it to snake the drain.
