Question on Roster - yes, I know.........

why are there newly recently added semi-auto pistols on the roster?

    ***********

Are these really just renewals, and the state trying to make it look like something else (an addition instead of a renewal).

I am not familiar with any of them, so I don't know if they are new models, were never on the roster until now, and then magically were added to the roster some how.

    I suspect these are renewals.

DA revolvers follow a different set of rules. Remember that the Kimber revolvers are also on-roster.

The Shield is the same as the CA version, but with extra "cool guy" stuff.

The DE looks like they just added a rail on the upper. Maybe CA thinks that's OK.

As for the HK's, my guess is they did some backhand deal with CA. Color alone is typically enough for CA to say "no".

There was a Kahr carbon fiber (wrap) CW9 added a while back also.

This is true and the different color has to be listed separately.

If it's already listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, the manufacturer can utilize an exemption to submit similar variations of what's listed to also be listed. These variations can not have any changes to the dimensions, materials, or operations of the listed pistol's magazine well, barrel, chamber, or firing mechanism. [PC 32030]

          Penal Code 32030
          (a) A firearm shall be deemed to satisfy the requirements of subdivision (a) of Section 32015 if another firearm made by the same manufacturer is already listed and the unlisted firearm differs from the listed firearm only in one or more of the following features:
          (1) Finish, including, but not limited to, bluing, chrome-plating, oiling, or engraving.
          (2) The material from which the grips are made.
          (3) The shape or texture of the grips, so long as the difference in grip shape or texture does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
          (4) Any other purely cosmetic feature that does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
          (b) Any manufacturer seeking to have a firearm listed under this section shall provide to the Department of Justice all of the following:
          (1) The model designation of the listed firearm.
          (2) The model designation of each firearm that the manufacturer seeks to have listed under this section.
          (3) A statement, under oath, that each unlisted firearm for which listing is sought differs from the listed firearm only in one or more of the ways identified in subdivision (a) and is in all other respects identical to the listed firearm.
          (c) The department may, in its discretion and at any time, require a manufacturer to provide to the department any model for which listing is sought under this section, to determine whether the model complies with the requirements of this section.

If differnet colors are allowed, I am hoping Wilson Combat applies for a non-green frame CQB to be on the roster.
