    S&W 686 Plus Range Trip

    My poll here:

Concluded with the majority of CGers suggesting the S&W 686 Plus. Well I am very well pleased. 100 rounds of WWB 38 Special and 50 rounds of Fiocchi 357 Magnum.

Nice! You gonna change the grip or add anything to it?
The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!

Are those fired single action or double action?

I agree! There is just something so mechanically satisfying and vicerally pleasing about sliding each cartridge into the cylinder and shooting a revolver. And the 686 (+ or not) is one of the nicest!

Great shooting with the 4 inch! Wait until you shoot the 6 inch, you'll love it even more.

I think I will leave it stock for awhile. Old revolver guy here so all DA. If I was going to shoot PPC or hunt I would go with the 6 inch. This one is just the home handgun.

Being a seven shooter took a little to get use to after shooting six shooters for the last 40 years. The first three cylinders I shot only six, d'oh, a Homer/senior moment. The Fiocchi 142 grain FMJ while making a loud of noise, (indoor range) was not that severe in recoil.

I got the X-Treme 125 grain plated Flat Point so that is my next reloading project.

                Triple action, obviously.

Xtreme 125 gr flat points with 7.0 gr of W231 powder makes an excellent load for my 686+ snub. It blasts some out of the 2.5" barrel but is very accurate and low recoil. I have not tried it out of the 4" yet but I imagine it would be even better.

I like W231 but currently I only have Bullseye, Unique and BE-86. I am thinking I will use the Bullseye for 38 Special and the BE-86 for 357 Magnum loads.

Having a variety of different powders and loads is a good thing. I have tried several powders but usually keep W231 as my main powder because I can make good loads for every handgun caliber I load for. It's not the top load for everything, but it has been very reliable and consistent for everything I have loaded. I have loaded .38, .357, 9mm, .40, .45, 10mm, and .44 with it so far with great results. That's pretty good for one powder!

I bought a pre-lock 686+ on impulse and spent the next ten days wondering why I did it. After just one cylinder load at the range, my doubts were gone. Sometimes impulse is a good thing, after all.

Got the 686+ in 6” pre-lock. Heck of a nice gun.

                              Good shooting OP
