    Thanks Gnote, that sounds right.

I went by gunrunners in duarte after the gunshow dibacle and they had a pretty nice CPO 9mm 226 for $575. I almost picked it up but decided to get what i really wanted. I asked Paul what he could do on a P229R in .357 SIG and it was around $900.00 OTD. I told him id think about it till tuesday.

I guess nobody reads my posts (the one just above yours).

          Give these guys a try:

P229R in any caliber on sale for $725. Great guys to deal with, shipped the same day I ordered, but did have to wait 3 weeks for 10 round mags (they were out of stock and had to pull the hi-caps). I got mine in .357 Sig, at this point it is my favorite handgun, albeit the ammo is expensive.

the only problem is that you have to pay for shipping / then get cal taxed by your FFL / DROS fees, etc and it ends up being ~$900 anyway.

Gunrunners price is $775.00; after all that crap its $900 sumptin w/ CC.

Agree ammo is pricier and harder to find than .40 or 9mm. Seems louder and has snappier recoil w/ a tad more muzzle flip, muzzle blast/flash. Very accurate though. I went the 229 .40 route and got a .357 SIG barrel for fun later. Sticking with the .40 for SD apps.

The SIG's grip fits my hand better than the Beretta's.

One other thing, if you check out the latest ballistic gel tests elsewhere on the Net, you'll see that the better 9mm +p or +p+ JHP defensive loads come very, very close to .357 SIG performance without the same level of muzzle blast/flash/recoil or higher ammo cost, especially practice ammo.

So don't forget about the 9mm SIGs. Even cheaper to shoot than the .40's. Very decent SD ammo now available.

                    9mm

I've narrowed my defense hand guns down to 9mm only because I can shot it better than .40 or .357. I can probably put 5 9mm shots in the 10 ring in the same amout of time for me to put 2 .357 in the 10 ring.

Accuracy is the most important factor to consider (at least that's my opinion).

That is why I have both P226 9mm and P229 .357 Sig (for which I will probably get a 9mm conversion barrel for practice).
