G20 owners - How reliably will it function with 40?

Can I just shoot 40 from a G20 without concern? Is there some ammo I'm likely to have issues with? Should I use a 40 barrel/spring etc.? Considering the purchase of a G20 and would like to know ...

Yes No concerns do it quite often . Functions perfectly .
Some will argue you.need a special spring a Glock 20 needs a 21 lb spring . I prefer flat wound spring. It will function from the 40 S@w tula to The Hottest stuff Underwood makes .

100% for mine... for some reason I find it more accurate than shooting real 10 mm.

For practice, perfectly fine. For carry, I wouldn't. For hunting, I wouldn't hunt with 40 but would with full power 10mm.

... or perhaps there are mag issues I need to be aware of?

No issues what so ever at the range shooting 40 from my stock G20 and G29 using oem 10mm mags.

However, I had cycling issues running 40s through a 10mm Areo survival rifle, so this shouldn't be thought of as universally applicable to all 10mm.

I shoot as much .40 through mine as I do 10mm. No issues, and I even have a heavier recoil spring for hot 10mm reloads.

Some will say that headspacing on the extractor (with .40) is going to cause excessive extractor wear or to break an extractor, but with glocks who cares. Cheap part and easy to carry a spare if you're really worried about it. I haven't seen any issues in the probably 500 rounds I've fired of .40 in my G20.

It works no problem. But I don’t make it a habit to shoot .40 out of it. I also own a G21 upper and mags. I use it to shoot 45acp which is more readily available.

0 problems for me also. I use 40sw for practice and carry the 10mm as a sidearm when hunting boar. But shooting 10mm is too much fun out of my G20sf pistol.

So what I’m hearing from people is that I shouldn’t bother to look at a G27 when I can get a more shootable G29 and be able to light off some 10mm for a good time?

I *definitely* would not CCW a G20 or G29 with .40s&w. Range use only.

I’ve read that it can be beneficial to run 40 in a g20 since the shorter round would be fully supported chamber versus the half supported 10mm. Now I don’t own a G20 but own a USP 40 chambered for 10mm. I plan to do the same thing to practice drills, then use 10mm to test loads and eventually carry.

Any insight or opinions on that statement?

The G27 is much smaller that the G29 if it's a carry gun.

IMHO, if you plan on shooting .40 more than 30% of the time, then get a .40.
