    Legal Glock 17 in calif.

Does anybody know if I purchase a Glock 17 from an out of state dealer and it is a Model PI1750201, "this is the 17 round mag type", and the selling dealer ether changes the mags out for 10 rounders or does not ship the 17 mags to my FFL in cal. is this is ok? The FFL I talked to says yes, but I would hate to buy this gun , have it shipped, have the DROS done to find out the Modle number forbids me from owning it in Calif.
I have surched the country for this pistol, they are very hard to come by.

    Thanks for any input.

The Glock 17 is on the CA handgun roster, so as long as it doesn't come with any 17 round mags, I think it's ok.

Thanks, I "think so" too, but thought maybe the model number for the 10 round type might be differant than the 17 round, and the model number would be the only thing that they look at?

Thats correct. I bought a 19 recently from Kentucky and they switched out the 15 rounders to 10 rounders for me no problem. My FFL was completely fine with it

When I was shopping for a Glock not long ago, the BEST deal I could find was to join GSSF and take advantage of their Pistol Purchase Program for Members Only. Only way I know of to get your G17 for $398. My G34 was $440 through them... Although the only CA dealer if I remember correctly is in SJ. Since you're down south it would work out to something like: $35 to join GSSF, $15 for shipping, and $25 ffl, so it might not be a deal for you, but worth checking into, as the (usually) LE-only dealer had a good selection of G17/G19's in both OD and Black frames.

You'll love the G17... Great gun!

http://www.gssfonline.com/ Scroll down in the window on the right hand side, or go to Glock Talk and search on GSSF for more info.

EDIT: Oh, and I'd also recommend ordering this DVD, Making Glocks Rock (I got mine off ebay cheaper), swap the 5.5lb Connector
for a 3.5lb Connector (I got mine from Lone Wolf), and do a $ .25 Trigger Job (shown step-by-step in the DVD). BIG IMPROVEMENT! : http://www.americangunsmith.com/view.php?id=3

it's ok... the DOJ Handgun Roster doesnt 'discriminate" that way. If it's on the list (which it is) it doenst distinguish between 17 or 10 round models.

Ive had an XD and Sig P226ST shipped as 'high capacity" versions. I cant remember which gun it was, but on the box, there was a HUGE sticker saying "Not for Sale in CA" due to the magazines.

I would simply mention it to your FFL so that they're not "surprised" by any undesriable semantics..

Ive also had the seller ship me dismantled magazines as "spare parts kits" It's a stupid, asinine law, but there are legitimate ways to get what came with the gun..

its always a good idea to know if your receiving ffl is a stickler for the details.

A member here had one that went by the mfg SKU numbers- it took a few weeks to straighten that out.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if it was (say, accidentally) shipped with the 17-round magazines, they could dros the pistol for you without including any mags (release it under the assumption that you could only buy 10-round mags for it and that you got screwed out of mags).

That happened to me once. They just sent the mags back and had me contact the seller to work it out.

My G19 came with one of each- so the ffl held the hi-cap for me. Gave me a $25 store credit when he sold it to a LEO customer later on.

I thought that was pretty nice of him-I used the money to buy amo. Back when $25 still got 100rnds (with tax) of 9mm at a gunshop.

I bought a G17 from a Washington state dealer, he gave me a lower price & shipped w/o mags to Bright Spot Pawn in Riverside. It was the one with 2 x 17 round mags, and he would have swapped out mags if he had them. This was last month. Oh, and the price was $499.
