    New SA MC Operator

Received my new SA MC Operator. Is there an issue with mim parts?
    Which parts are mim?
When work allows, I will clean and lube her. Then put 250 rounds through her on the first outing.

    That is a good goal.

There aren't any issues with SA MIM parts in my limited experience. I own two Loadeds; one is Parkerized, the other an MC Operator. Both pistols are more accurate than I am.

I would think the barrel would need replacing long before any metal-injection-moulded internal parts might break.

These are great guns for the money, and for the money, you're going to get some mimmages.

SAI makrs great MIM parts and ni problems with it. The debate between how they make the parts are always there but the reality is that chances are, you wont shoot the gun enough to break it.

            Fondle, shoot, lube, repeat....enjoy.

If it breaks after say, 50,000 rounds....then fix it...

I have a TRP Operator and have been slowly replacing the MIM parts with Wilson products. Started with getting rid of the internal lock and magwell, next safety etc.

MIM parts are not a problem. Please, trust the engineers who's job it is to figure out stuff like this, who spec'ed the part for the gun, not just people on the internet who think they know what MIM parts are and are not capable of.

FWIW, I don't recall a lot of "internet stories" about MC Operators failing due to MIM parts.

But in the end, it's up to you and what your comfort level is.

My MC Operator (the off-roster one) has about 2k though it and nothing even looks worn. Only thing changed is the mag release and ILS MSH with an integrated magwell version from EB. I know it's not a lot of rounds but its holding up well so far and it gets run hard in USPSA now

How can you tell if the MIM parts are bad? Did they break?

One extractor, one ejector on the EMP in the first 500 rounds, at that point I spoke to a few Smiths before sending my guns off for work - the universal opinion that I heard was that Springfield uses cheap mim parts. I opted to upgrade before any further failures.

But there are parts on the 1911 that are known as common points of failure. Its been recommended to me by several people to replace the slide stop, extractor, safety etc with aftermarket parts. Get the new parts fitted and keep the OFM parts as spares for a match/etc
