    DROS Delays

    Folks,

Hope this is a good forum for this. Never had a problem with going past 10 days for approval. Clean record, government security clearance, not a spot on my record. 20+ purchases over 2 - 3 years (2 already this year). Got a delay on current purchase, which was actually a new replacement gun, sent to my LGE by Beretta, to replace frame issue. DOJ at 31 days still showed "delayed". LGS is Bolsa in OC. Bolsa callled DOJ and escalated to a manager, and somehow on day 33, gun was released as ok to pickup.

    Questions:

    1. Anyone else seeing this or had this happen to them?
    2. Doesnt DOJ have to legally change to undetermined after 30 days? How can they keep status as delayed, beyond 30?

    Thank much!

Never had a delay past 10 days. Smooth as butter.

A "delay", after 30 days becomes "undetermined" at which point the FFL can choose to release or not.

A delay can happen for reasons that have nothing to do with you. Sometimes CADOJ can't sort out the issue within 30 days. That's why it's important to only use FFL's that will release when status goes to undetermined.

@onelonehorseman... what I'm saying is after 30 days it did not go to undetermined. the system still showed it as delayed.

              Strange.

CADOJ created that "undetermined" status several years ago because prior to that time, a delayed DROS would stay delayed until they either determined that the buyer was eligible or not. That process was often taking 3-4 months, and a lot of CADOJ resources.

So now, they just wash their hands of it after 30 days, if they haven't yet determined the buyer eligible or ineligible, and leave it up to the FFL.

If your DROS did not go undetermined after 30, then there was a glitch at the CADOJ BOF.

The part time DOJ worker who checks DROS must be studying for his GED. Probably can’t spare the extra time to process DROSs before 30 days.

It certainly does. Especially as you can not ever speak to anyone to get clarity on issues. Everything is done through the mail, at their leisure, with no promise of when you will receive a response, or even a promise of a response.

California seems to be stacked up against, legal, law-abiding citizens. Felons or other non-qualified people, who want a gun, buy them illegally, same day, whereas people with no disqualifications need to wait a 2 - 4 weeks.

There is members here that buy 40-80+ guns a year and don't get delays or undetermined. So no real rhyme or reason to it if you have nothing in your background that could cause a problem.

They must have had a hard time checking you out.
                            Or, someone dropped the ball.

Its been 10 days for ages, with every gun owner I know
