    CMP 1911s . . . FFL

    Hi Ya'll.

I'm getting my package for CMP 1911 ready. Will have to wait 'til 9/4/18 to finalize it and have my signatures notarized at the AAA office (that will be fun!). My only issue is that my FFL doesn't want to give me a copy of his FFL01 license to include with the package. Instead, he would fax it to them. I'm a bit nervous about this, as I fear stuff could get mixed up somewhere along the line, where presumably tens of thousands of applicants want one of the 8K 1911s. Am I overly concerned, or should I try to find another FFL for this?

    Try another FFL.

Many ffls do not hand out copies of their licence to customers. However, they will gladly fax it to another ffl (CMP in this case)for business.

Do not worry about it getting lost. Is there a chance? Yes a slight chance. But nothing to sweat about. As long as the put your name and invoice number with it, the receiving ffl (CMP) should be able to match it to your invoice.
JUST MAKE SURE that CMP accepts a fax.

They should be able to email it as well...which may be easier.

There's a specific email address for the cmp1911 program that FFLs can send their docs to. I have done it for customers and received confirmation from CMP that my FFL was associated to Customer X Y and Z, etc..

Have them email/fax and ask when they can do it then call the CMP as soon as you confirm they had sent it and notify them so they can make sure its all ok. Shouldn't be too hard. I have to deal with this when buying on gun broker a lot lately, and each time its a different seller and I gotta have my FFL send it.

Take a deep breath. The CMP is trying to get you a weapon. They won’t kick you to the curb because of a little slip up. I’ve always found their customer service to be outstanding.

Giving a customer a copy of an FFL can be disastrous. ATF frowns on it, and the customer can knowingly, or unknowingly, cause all kinds of problems.

I had a customer once who got our FFL from an employee. He used it to send in a half dozen guns that were off roster or revolvers with barrels too short for SAE. Then he got mad at me personally when I took him to task and sent all the guns back at his expense.

This makes total sense, and understand why the two FFLs I reached out to didn't want to send me a copy.

That said, why in the heck does CMP state a heavy preference for including a signed copy of a current 01, or 02, or 07 Federal Firearms License? If the ATF is telling licensees not to share a copy of the license with customers, why is the CMP asking customers to do just that?

The FFLs both indicated that they've already faxed or e-mailed a copy of their respective licenses to CMP. Logic would dictate that because the CMP already has a copy of these licenses, by me including their address and/or FFL number in my application packet, they would be able to cross-reference it and verify.

I gave up hope a long time ago that any government agency (or even most commercial enterprises, especially when it comes to firearms) operates logically. So, when the CMP tells me to include a copy of the FFL, that's what I'd like to try to do. The instruction sheet also seems to allow faxing or e-mailing the license, but one indicated that it's not necessary because the CMP already has a copy, while the other one asked to for an order number so they can e-mail the CMP. Well, I don't have an order number because this is just the lottery step, and none is given by CMP.

From all of these requirements, I can't help but to think the CMP has put up all these roadblocks in an effort to winnow down the number of "actual" applicants. (e.g., is notarization of the purchaser verification really necessary?) I'm afraid that one wrong move will put me into the "incomplete application" file, and miss out on the lottery, but I suppose I should just roll with what I have and hope for the best.

Gavin Newsom is a lying, cheating slickster and will be is the worst mistake California has ever made if he gets now that he has been elected Governor. Hollywood movie producers look to him and his oleaginous persona as a model for the corrupt "bad guy" politician character. This guy is so greasy, he could lubricate an entire arsenal of AR-15s just by breathing on them.

And don't forget that California notaries will never put as much as a letter or stamp on the forms with our signatures. All the California notaries I've met (I usually go to AAA) fill out a separate form that has to be added to the stack of papers, and often they don't even know what they are notarizing.

My local store/range would not provide me there FFL information either, however they sent the info and got a reply from CMP that it was received. I think this is pretty typical- all is good.

I never knew aaa offered notary services. Do you have to make an appointment? Recently I've been fortunate that one of the tenants in our office is a notary so I just go to him.
