    Polished Stainless ??

A gun I'm looking at is nickel like polish stainless. Apparently the gun is not manufactured that way the other had it polished to create this appearance which is great. What do I need to know about that - is there anything to worry about someone having a gun polished for the shine and nickel like look?

Its someone else's firearm so I'm not comfortable posting their guns' image here. If it were mine I'd do so.

Use the side without the serial#, I dont see what the problem would be, ask if you can post a pic. I would be interested in seeing what you are describing.

It depends. Did they polish it so much it smoothed out roll marks or emblems? Round out pin holes? I've seen some done very well; others not so much.

I don't like highly polished guns because they show every little nick, scratch, blemish. Set it down on anything even mildly abrasive (like the outdoor carpet on a lot of gun benches) and it leaves marks. There are lots of guys who love the look, and that's OK for them, but not for me.

If it's a BBQ gun, maybe; but I like to use my guns.

            Ok.

You would get more responses if you provided some information about the gun.

Highly likely that it is good to go.

Is it appropriate to post a link to a gun in the market place?
Not mine - in fact one I'm considering.

I don't think you will have anything to worry about with the finish other than you scratching it up with use.

I have several stainless revolvers and have considered putting a high polish on one or two of them too. It seems to me that the very smooth surface would clean up well and any minor scratches could be polished out easily.

That Smith looks great. Nothing wrong with the finish.

There are some finishes that have a special process performed at the surface to prevent rust. If those are polished, it can cause all sorts of problems with rust, sometimes with durability.

I'm not sure stainless steel qualifies and I don't think there is a problem, but just a heads up that it's not always just about "it looks pretty."

Most of the S&W Stainless Revolvers I have seen are "Polished, " from the factory.

My 696 has a polished finish. It looks nice, and since I take care of stuff it will continue to look nice.

I would caution against trying to polish a gun like this or have someone else do it for you that isn't S&W. If you really want that finish send it back to S&W. They actually know what they are doing and the gun will come back done right and there will be no degradation in value. You are dealing with a $1000 gun so it would be prudent to not let some hack make it worth $500.
