MP5 Pistol ?

I was wondering if pistols have to be in a CA compliant form before they enter the state just like rifles? I want to do a MP5 rifle build and am wondering if it's legal to buy a Zenith z-5, send it to my dealer/gunsmith, have him put the 922r parts on, pin/weld a barrel extension and then transfer the gun as a rifle. Thanks.

The pistol? I'm aware the once turned into a rifle it needs to be CA compliant but I'm wondering if I can have the pistol shipped to my FFL unmolested? IE: I know rifles have to be featureless, break-top, CA compliant before they can even be shipped into the state but do those rules still stand for pistols?

cause it seems zenith seems to stock the pistol versions more than the rifle version.

i'm guessing it is due to the fact that most people in free states can buy the pistol and add the SB brace and get a truer representation of an MP5.

if you goto atlantic firearms, they have their own house brand Omega MP5 that is currently in stock, and all it needs is a grip wrap (that they also sell) and it is CA legal.

Theres a reason many here in california made 80% lowers for their single shot uppers. California hand gun roster is your issue on this one. A zenith mp5 is my first hand gun purchase if i ever get the wife to move out of California...

Your best bet is putting a want to buy in the buyer forum and hope someone moves to California with what you want.

That looks very similar to my HK SP89's. The rail on top is an improvement. Wonder how reliable they are?

An MP5 pistol has to comply with both AW reg's and the roster, or be made exempt/compliant. Since the mag well is outside the pistol grip it becomes an AW in CA, unless the FFL has an AW permit he can't receive it until it is exempt/compliant.
