Difference between elite and equinox

Elite will have SRT (short reset trigger) and Beavertail. Might be differences in sights depending on where you are getting them from, but those should be the main differences. -
One big difference that may influence your decision is that unless you are LE or are planning to purchase your Elite via a private party transfer in CA (good luck!), the Elite is not on the CA list of approved handguns. Therefore the in state PPT is the only way a civilian can legally obtain one (I think).URL="http://www.nra.org/"][/url]NRA Life MemberComment

The Elite can be had in CA, but as other posters wrote, very hard to come by. The SRT trigger can be added on to non SRT models and is very nice, although it does feel like the trigger breaks in the palm of your hand (it moves the release point back which I didn't like). The beavertail is IMO crap but some like it. The Equinox has different sights than any other model. TRUGLO Tritium Fiber Optic front sight up front and the rear are SIGLITE sights. The finish on the Equinox (or lack of on the polished slide side) scratches very easily. Other than that it's an aesthetic choice above all else. Do not buy a 220 unless is has the external extractor. Just out of curiosity, what is your intended use for this gun? Is this going to be in addition to an existing collection or your first? Short of buying a gun for looks, which I recommend against, it's hard to compare which is right for you because the Elite beavertail changes the feel and handleability of the gun for better or worse.Comment

The Equinox isn't exactly easy to find either though being that it's a limited edition run. (well it was from what i remember reading)
I was contemplating between an equinox and a platinum elite...
I ended up with the Equinox...
I was going to buy my wife a 229 equinox and she said "it looks too masculine... can you get me the platinum elite instead? It's more girly".
hehe
