    Sig 226 Beavertail

Hey guys, is the Sig Beavertail (as featured on some of the higher end sigs) part of the frame? Or is it something that I could have a gunsmith install? I googled it to see if it was for for sale any place but no luck. I assume that I can't purchase it, but I wanted to reach out to the knowledgable folks here on calguns. Thanks

My understanding is that it's part of the frame and not a part you can buy and install.

Yep, its apart of the frame. It's not something that can be added like a 1911.

I'm sure someone could add one for you, but at great expense. The beavertails are part of the frame.

And not legal in California unless you're a LEO.

If you're willing to pay, I'm sure there are gunsmiths out there willing to weld shape and refinish your pistol to whatever configuration you like.......it just depends on what it's worth to you.

I wonder if an industrious person could craft aluminum grips with an integral beavertail?

Not on the roster of handguns certified for sale.

LEO are exempt from the roster, so they can purchase one while most others cannot.

That's a poor way for the OP to phrase it.

I have a P226 Elite (with the nice beavertail) -- acquired by PPT -- and I love it.

I just purchased a brand new P226 X-5 Competition (with a nice beavertail as well) in person from a local shop and I'm not LEO. This model is on the list.

And thank god too because those beavertails make your handgun shoot flames and nuclear bullets. Police officers are the only one's professional enough to own them.

You're telling me I had to take a special weekend course on how to safely carry the P220 SS Elite I got before it could be PPT'd, those beavertails can be dangerous.
