    PT 1911 Range Report

Finally was able to pick up my Taurus PT1911 from jail and took it to the range this morning. This is my first 45ACP handgun and got a pretty good deal on it from a fellow Calgunner.

First, thing I did was did a quick break down. Cleaned and oiled all the main parts.

I shot three different brands to test out which were Winchester, Remington, and Federal (all 230 grain). The PT1911 ate all 150 rounds without any problems

Although, I picked up a brand new 10rd Chip McCormick and three times it did not hold the slide back on the last round. I did not run into this problem at all with the standard 8rd Taurus mag. Also, definitely need to practice more with this gun as my groupings tend to be on the left hand side. Probably combination of trigger pull and getting use to shooting 45acp (owned all 9mm guns before this 1911).

I know a lot of people hate on Taurus, but I am definitely happy with the purchase and the performance of the PT 1911!

Pretty hard to screw up a 1911.

Not sure if you have adjustable rear sights, but move it to the right.

If you don't have a sight pusher, you could place it in a well padded vise and use a wooden dowel to drift the rear sight to the right. Just make sure to use a thin strip of tape to mark your starting point on the sight so you know how much you've moved it. 1/16" at a time at the most. Make sure to check if there is a set screw that has to be loosened first.

              Edited to add.....

Nice lookin' gun! My first handgun that I got myself was a Taurus 669 .357 mag. in '89 and it has never failed me. It's the only Taurus I own, but I doubt I'll ever get rid of it.

Have an experienced 1911 shooter try it. That group looks just like my first groups with a 1911. To much trigger finger.

It looks great! That grip color and texture on the flat/matte black. Especially nice on the 1911 shape.

Unfortunately, the sights are not adjustable. But I agree with Raycm2, it is probably myself causing the groups to go left lol

                      Nice pick.
I doubt if you need to adjust anything if this is your first 1911 and first .45.

I like Taurus 1911s. Nothing wrong with them but they get a lot of bad rap. Taurus 1911s are way better fit and finished than same level priced guns of most brands. I Guess some folks want to pay less but expect to get a Dan Wesson or a Wilson Combat

Tarus's reputation is well deserved. Best of luck to you.

I have seen and shot some Taurus pistols that were unreliable or overly picky with ammo. So the negative perception by some is not without merit. However, the PT1911 seems to have a good reputation, as does the PT-92.

OP, don't mess with the sights until you are sure that is the issue. Many of the accuracy issues are shooter based, so rule that out before donking up the gun.

I agree with you, I wont be making any changes until I get a lot more range time with it.
