Only 1 1911

I went through several 1911's - two Kimber Gold Match & three Colt Govt. None were 100% reliable.
The only 1911 I've had that went (so far) 8,600 rounds without a malfunction was a Wilson CQB.

Makes sense, I might just take up lightcav's recommendation to get a USP .45 and be done with it. HK's are high quality guns. The main reason I have not gone HK for .45 is because I already own a Glock 30sf and a Glock 21sf. They both hold more rounds than a HK or a 1911 and are 100% reliable. Everything is a trade off.

I also own several revolvers which I love, but have drawbacks compared to semi-autos, mainly capacity. I shoot very well with revolvers but they hold less rounds and are a little slower to reload under pressure. My 686+ snub is one of my all-time favorites. Totally accurate and holds 7 rounds of .357.

My Colt Gold Cup has been 100% reliable. But yes as others have said buy what you want and have a good 1911 gun smith go through it.

I only own one 1911. My SA1911-A1 mil-spec. Bought new in '93 for the handsome price of $329. So far, so very good. If I ever do have a problem, Brett would get a call.

I would buy pretty much any mid to mid-high level 1911 since they are generally very reliable. Conversely, it will be hard to find a "bulletproof" gun because just about any production gun can have occasional issues, as you found. Any problems can be fixed by a skilled machinist.

Your Dan Wesson had an unfortunate issue which you apparently solved by switching mags. Hindsight is 20:20, but you probably didn't need to sell it.

Like others have said...finely tuned means fine tolerances (usually). This also means that there will be times that those tolerances, if not monitored and maintained, will not be met...when that occurs, there will be some failure.

You are your best guage for acceptance of failure rate vs. cost to achieve the lowest rate of failure...and there is the beauty of the decision you make about what you purchase.

Get a Wilson, NHC, or similar and shoot the snot out of it. Worry about it when it fails...however many thousands of rounds that is. I bought a Wilson and SA for just that reason. 20,000 rounds later...waiting for that first FTF...

You're already familiar with HK... So pick yourself up a 45C with a lem trigger and don't look back.

Yes, of course I have a 1911. A Colt Mk IV Officers Enhanced that I've owned since the '90's. I've put 1000's of rounds through it and its a tack driver. Its a great and reliable gun but the 45C w lem is just butter - Plain and simple. I don't know any other way to put it. That gun is badass.

Sounds like you are better off just sticking with Glocks. They are easier to maintain. Do you sell your car every time it needs a tune up?

Ive owned a few Springfields and have always had very good results. I did have one issue while using a CM 10 round mag once and was only with that one magazine. The MC Operator I own now I have run pretty hard and its been great.Springfield also has the lifetime warranty should anything pop up their customer service is supposed to be second to none

Me personally, I think the TRP fills a nice value for features. Assuming the features it has are ones you want. If not then you're better off starting with something more basic and building it into your dream
